Unknown. Possibly from Swedish dal (valley) or from a name like *Talvijoki (like Tali, etymology 2) to refer to a flowing body of water (the old mouth of the Vantaa river, now called Mätäjoki) that could have been used as a road when frozen (i.e. during the winter).[1]
