reversing loop (plural reversing loops)

  1. (rail transport) A loop provided for the purpose of turning a train or tram round to face in the opposite direction. The vehicles themselves do not have to reverse.
    • 1961 December, “The Channel Tunnel—a realistic proposal”, in Trains Illustrated, page 724:
      Reversing loops at each terminal would obviate turning the car-carrying trains.
