The 2024 Cannock Chase District Council election is scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2024, alongside the other local elections in the United Kingdom being held on the same day. All 36 members of Cannock Chase District Council in Staffordshire will be elected following boundary changes.

Background

Cannock Chase was a traditionally Labour-controlled council. The party held control of the council from its creation in 1974 to 1982 and again from 1987 to 2003, with a period of no overall control between.[1]

Labour regained control in 2012, but lost control in 2019. The Conservatives won control for the first time in 2021, but the council fell into no overall control again in 2023. In that election, the Conservatives won 4 seats (down 4) with 32.1% of the vote, Labour won 9 (up 5) with 44.9%, and the Green Party won 4 (up 3) with 16.2%.

Boundary changes

Cannock Chase usually elects its councillors in thirds, on a 4-year cycle. However, following boundary changes, all councillors will be elected to the new wards.[2] The change reduces the number of councillors by 5.
