Marco Lazzara (born 1962) is an Italian countertenor who sings a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque composers to those of the 20th century. Since his debut in 1989 he has performed in a number of notable premieres and revivals of rarely performed operas and has recorded widely on the Bongiovanni, Ricordi, Arts, Forlane, Opera Rara and Dynamic labels.
In 1996 he was the first countertenor as Orfeo in Italy in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice.
In 1997 he recorded for the B.B.C. an entire programme based mainly on French chamber music ( Meyerbeer, Fauré, Debussy.. ) and a new composition by Carlos Miranda ( Misero pargoletto ) for the bicentenary of the birth of F. Schubert.
In June 2001, Lazzara sang the title role of Antonio Cesti's Il Tito in its first modern revival since 1983. The production at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants premiered a newly edited score by music scholar Alan Curtis.
In October 2001, he sang the role of Edgar in the Italian premiere of [[Aribert Reimann's Lear at the Teatro Regio di Torino.
Marco Lazzara created the role of Manichino di Donna in the world premiere of Azio Corghi's Il Dissoluto Assolto at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon in March 2006 and reprised the role for its Italian premiere at La Scala the following September.
He sang the role of Lurcanio in the world premiere recording of Johann Simon Mayr's Ginevra di Scozia (Opera Rara ORC23).
The recording which used a new performing edition, reconstructed from Mayr's original score by Marco Beghelli, was taken from live performances at the Teatro Nuovo di Trieste in April 2001 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the opera's premiere. He presented for the first time in Italy the countertenor part in Faust Cantata by A. Schnittke (Milan, 2007) and the world's première Pietra di diaspro by Adriano Guarnieri at Rome Opera House and Ravenna Festival (2007).
