Ekana Cricket Stadium[1][2] is an international standard cricket stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh,[3] named after former Prime Minister Of India Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and one of the Lord Vishnu's name Ekana. [4]

Initially It was known as Ekana Cricket Stadium, but before its first international match, its name was changed to to Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on 6 November 2018. It is a stadium under public-private partnership, started building during Samajwadi Party's Government led by Akhilesh Yadav and completed during Bhartiya Janta Party's Gorvenment led by Yogi Adityanath. With a seating capacity of 50,000, it is the third largest international cricket stadium in India.[5]

International cricket

On 6 November 2018, the stadium hosted its first international match, a Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and the West Indies,[6] becoming the 52nd stadium in India to host an international cricket match.[7] In that match Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer to score four centuries in T20Is.[8] India won that match by 71 runs.[9] The last time Lucknow hosted an international match was in January 1994, when India played a Test match against Sri Lanka at the K. D. Singh Babu Stadium.[10] Before its international debut, it also hosted the final of the 2017–18 Duleep Trophy.[11]
