Dominican hip hop has its own style of hip hop music by mixing its native music and rapping to it like in the genres Merenrap or Merenhouse.

Dominican hip Hop

History

Hip hop is a cultural movement developed in New York City in the 1970s primarily by African Americans. Since first emerging in The Bronx and Harlem, the lifestyle of hip hop culture has today spread around the world. One of the places hip hop spread to was the Dominican Republic. The four historic elements of hip hop are: MCing (rapping), DJing, urban inspired art/tagging (graffiti), and b-boying (or breakdancing). The most known extended elements are beatboxing, hip hop fashion, and hip hop slang.

All these elements have been carried on into the Dominican Republic since the mid 80s by young immigrants who returned to their mother land, usually from New York, Boston and Florida. Some of the first artists who carried on this culture were: Itto Gammy, Born MC El Ministro, B.MC.P, Tribu Revelde, Lo correcto, La Botella, La Krema (AKA: wander) ,Cool Fresh,Latin Power, the imcredible posse, MoneyKane (Carlos aka El Loco) Lider de : Mente Militar de la Romana , El Padrino, Moroco, Crazy P aka Loco P (la Romana), Sonic, Over Dose, Big Paulie, Panpano Trukiny, DJ Mahogany, DJ Strike One,Los cientificos, Los Guerreros Del Oriente, Sandy MC, Mariano MC, MC Papo, ALE-X, Eury, Hussi, Wistin, D.B.P, Alcapone Rap, Your Base (Papi Sanchez), El circulo de Muerte, Zona de Fuego, The Click Squad, Majah Magandy, MCD, Judiny, Tigueraje 809 (Judiny, Cortezano, Indio, Chacka, Alpa, kash, Prophex,El Chobbi) Tary, and Nucleo Salomon. Dominican artists playing reggaeton include Prophex, Noztra, Don Miguelo, Michael El Beta, La Franquisia (FR Music) (Grandmax, Derry, Euro "El Sunami Lirical", Anddy Dyy, Tony J, & W), Chiky Flow, Big Jonaz, Tico Alvarez, Gem Star and Big Mato, Los Dementes Algarete (LDA), Reychesta Secret Weapon of Tres Coronas, High Rollers Family, A&A, OG Black, Zequi House and La Fabrica.
