Katherine Rose Halper is an American comedian, writer, journalist, filmmaker, podcaster and teacher. She is the host of The Katie Halper Show and co-host of the Useful Idiots podcast with Matt Taibbi.
Early life and education
Halper was born and raised in New York City's Upper West Side. She graduated from The Dalton School and Wesleyan University.[1]
Halper has taught history at The Dalton School, her alma mater.[2]
Career
Comedy
She started her career performing as a stand up comedian in places such as Symphony Space and the DC Comedy Festival. She performed on the annual Nation magazine Seminar Cruise.
Film
She directed her first film in 2005 entitled La Memoria es Vaga. Halper produced the films Embedded, Free to Fly, and Commie Camp which she also directed.
Journalism
Halper's writing has been published in several news and media outlets including The New York Times, The Nation magazine, Gawker, and The Huffington Post.
Political activism
She is also known for being a national director of Living Liberally and the co-founder of Laughing Liberally which both promote political action through social interaction.[3][4]
Podcasting
She is the host of the The Katie Halper Show, a weekly WBAI radio show and podcast. During an interview with Katie Halper which was released as a podcast on March 25, 2020, Tara Reade, a former Senate staff assistant of Joe Biden, alleged that Biden sexually assaulted her in a Capitol Hill office building in 1993. Reade alleged that Biden had pushed her against a wall and penetrated her with his fingers.[5][6][7][8][9][10] A Biden spokesperson said that the allegation was false.[11]
In 2019, she launched the podcast Useful Idiots, co-hosted by Matt Taibbi and distributed by Rolling Stone.
