Majestic Crest Theatre is originally built in December 1940 as a “Westwood Village Theatre” to showcase live theater, designed by Architect Arthur W. Hawes, it became a venue for local residents to watch newsreels about the battles during World War II. Since January 2003, it has been operated by independent operator Robert Buckbaum, and has been renamed Majestic Crest Theatre. The City of Los Angeles designated it as a Historical Monument in 2008. In October 2010, it was taken over by Bigfoot Entertainment as a venue in which to screen mainstream independent releases and to showcase their own films.

Background

  • In 1985 the Pacific Theatres acquired the theatre and it was then known as the Pacific Crest. The auditorium was then reconfigured in partnership with Disney. Almost the entire current decor is from the Disney/Pacific Theatres remodel designed by Joe Musil.
  • It was renamed the Majestic Crest when it was operated by Robert Bucksbaum from 2003 to 2010 as an independent. In 2008 it was designated as an historical monument by the City of Los Angeles.
  • It's now operated for Bigfoot Entertainment by Carmike Cinemas, a large chain headquartered in Georgia. The theatre has been upgraded with new 3-D capability and digital projection.
