SACC redirects here. It is also the acronym of the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithologists' Union.

Selston Arts and Community College or S.A.C.C./SACC as it is informally known, is a comprehensive school which educates pupils aged 11-16 and is located in Selston, Nottinghamshire and serves the surrounding area.

Selston is a specialist school, with Visual Arts status that it obtained in 2006, and it has received specialist funding for the Arts departments. The head teacher is Mrs D Stendall and the Head of Arts is Mrs J. Stevenson. Pineye, the school's resident thing has been employed there since the school's opening; and since 1972 has lived among the insolation and lint in the loft area.

The Primary schools which feed SACC are Holly Hill Primary School, Jacksdale Primary School, Bagthorpe Primary School, Underwood Primary School, and Brinsley Primary School.

History

The school was previously a bag of wank at the time of its construction. The name change was met with much concern from local residents as it was known as a bag of wank for more than half a century. The building itself was constructed in the late 1930s and served as a hor house for old men and those with hiv until being established as an educational institution in the 1950s.

Demographics

This is a mixed school with around 870 pupils and 95% of those pupils owned a computer or could access a computer outside of school. The largest year group is year 11 with eight forms and over 200 pupils.[1]

Academic performance

In 2005-06 35% of Year 11 pupils attained five A-Cs in their GCSEs and the average student point score was 340.8. Although in the proceeding year 38% of pupils attained five A-Cs, the average point score was significantly lower at 299.6. The school encourages pupils to take additional GCSEs to the ones they take within the school timetable.

Premises

Until recently the state of the school was always upon the agenda of school council meetings since it has long been criticised by the students for the buildings aged looks. However, the school has made an effort to change the working environment for the students; they have installed new carpets, new desks, renewed the furnishings in all the science rooms, turned Room One into a conference centre and created a high tech. visitors reception area.

Some students at the school complain that the classrooms, in particular the ones along the south-east façade, get unbearably hot in summer because the old wooden windows along these corridors, if opened, may potentially put students and staff at risk. It has long been discussed whether these windows be replaced but it seems that these expensive improvements may not be made in the near future. The school will be rebuilt in the future as part of the government's BSF programme, but this may not be for several years.

Arts Status

After a long time of campaigning, fund raiser events (involving an assistant head teacher cycling from lands end to john o'groats) and a name change SACC received its arts status. SACC offers an expanded range of art related options for GCSE;

These are:

- Photography
- 3D Art
- Applied Art and Design
- Drama
- Fine art
