Arcticle Infoboxes

What happened to the cyclone info boxes in the article.. they're all undefined now. - グリフオーザー (talk) 23:56, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some guy messed with the template. Hopefully it's back to normal now. -- RattleMan 03:52, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When does Nadi start issuing Disturbance Advisories?

It seemed like with Nisha it started at A4, and they must have "upgraded" the summaries to advisories. I have no clue so, yeah. When does Nadi start issuing Disturbance Advisories? Syntheticalconnections (talk) 02:51, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nadi issue TDAs whenever a depression has the potential to intensify further.Jason Rees (talk) 02:55, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 03:13, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deep Tropical Low L1

This has come up in the latest Marine Bulletin - should it go in the Article (on the grounds that it is "numbered") or do we wait for further development?--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 09:24, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For now we await further development since they number lows all the time L1 L2 etc.Jason Rees (talk) 16:11, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Advisories never load

I am not able to plot Oli, since the advisory (gale/storm and disturbance) links you have, don't load. If some how someone could get them to me, it would be appreciated. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 23:49, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could anyone tell me what is wrong? I need some help!!! Syntheticalconnections (talk) 00:54, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They work for me, so if im around tomorrow ill write an list of RSMC track points up for you. Jason Rees (talk) 01:00, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. No clue why they don't work. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 01:37, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Include intensity, please! Syntheticalconnections (talk) 01:47, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Are you using Google Chrome? It seems to not work anymore... Internet Explorer works. Problem solved. Not really a convenient solution though. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 03:02, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like Chrome may have a bug when browsing FTP servers (where the advisories are). Use another browser for now. -- RattleMan 17:57, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Repository of short-lived web pages

I can't contact webcitation.org this morning (UK time) - if this means short-lived bulletins get missed out you may be able to retrieve them from my automatically generated repository at http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/advisories/ , and webcite them from there. Each page has its original URL and retrieval time embedded within it. Pages are retained here for about 3 days.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 09:11, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

webcitation still not available, I am linking to my own archive files for the moment. Please copy these to webcite when (if??) it comes back up. The most recent editions of each bulletin may still be available on the prime source.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 17:36, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks KeithJason Rees (talk) 18:54, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WebCite has re-appeared, I have copied the backlog across.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 15:28, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What is the defintion of Landfall and Direct Hit?

Specifically, what do you call it when the eye of a large cyclone passes over a small island, as seems to have happened with Pat and Aitutaki?--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 09:12, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A landfall is when the center of the system (eye) passes over an island. A direct hit is when the center comes very close to the island but its eye doesnt pass over the island. (eg when Nisha passed V close to A Samoa, it was considered a direct hit as it didnt pass over the island.)Jason Rees (talk) 17:20, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Missing bulletins from RSMC Nadi

I haven't seen any bulletins from Nadi in any of the usual places (FSU, NOAA, Unisys) today and assume something must have gone wrong with the promulgation methods. The following are the locations of the bulletins currently or fairly soon likely to be in use, on RSMC's own web site: Marine Bulletin 10140; Storm Warning 20004; Hurricane Warning 20008; Tropical Disturbance Advisory 20033; SWB for Samoa 20030, for Tonga 20027, for Niue 20025 - and there is an Index.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 16:50, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Odd: but oh well Here is the link to Fiji's SWBs - 20021.

And the Tropical Disturbance Summary 20036--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 17:27, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Normal feeds were restored at 2029z.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 20:46, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i will have a look through the MT Archive tomorrow to try and find the missing SWA for AS. Jason Rees (talk) 21:11, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
ive found it see edit screen.Jason Rees (talk) 15:47, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RSMC NADI

TCWC Wellington had to do an emergency takeover of advisories this afternoon after Nadi went into back up mode. I have only just found this out via the Niue weather forecast issued by Nadi.Jason Rees (talk) 21:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WMO Reports/other useful bits for the SPAC

RSMC Nadi are now saying this season is unusual with the formation of Nisha -Rene in the last few weeks.Jason Rees (talk) 14:09, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
New Cyclone season predictions

Strange behaviour of WebCite

Recently whenever I archive a .txt file and then display it, it comes out without any line breaks. Example. I have been archiving from my automatic copies at http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/advisories/, which are HTML (albeit crude), to work round this.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 23:22, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ive also encounted a problem this evening archivng the Press Release RSMC Nadi have put out about the naming of Sarah. it keeps turning to some osrt of code http://www.webcitation.org/5nqWjJ2Ca Jason Rees (talk) 04:08, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's incorrectly determining the MIME type PDF as text. Use your browser's "View Source" and save that "code" as "media.pdf", and it will open fine. -- RattleMan 22:58, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be working correctly now for new archive requests.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 16:02, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

12F

We have a problem Tropical Disturbance 12F is missing. It wasnt warned on in any of the Tropical Disturbance Summuaries, Marine Bulletins or International Marine Warnings. The only thing i can think it might be is a "Depression" i saw Meteo France FP talking about last week but i dont know weather this is 12F.Jason Rees (talk) 22:08, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't depression 12 Hubert in Meteofrance? And isn't MeteoFrance in SWIO, not SP? Syntheticalconnections (talk) 02:58, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oops... 12 was Fami. But still, SWIO isn't SP. I do not get your point. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 03:01, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Urf - We are on about the RSMC Nadis designations not JTWC's. Also Meteo France is the weather forecaster for France and it territories. Which include New Caledonia French Polynesia and Reunion in the Southwest Indian ocean. Now after popping on to Meteo France FP's site the other day i saw a "Depression" under warnings from Meteo France and TCWC Wellington but i dont know if this is TD12F as It wasnt warned on in any of the Tropical Disturbance Summuaries, Marine Bulletins or Marine Warnings from Nadi and i didnt get a response from the email i sent to Nadi.Jason Rees (talk) 03:17, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I wasn't talking about JTWC. Oh, I see... I forgot Gelane, that was 12! That's what made you think I was talking about JTWC... Maybe it was like earlier like 05F and 06F how they split, or something? Maybe they tracked 12F and it became 13F after "dissipating", even though it still existed, or something. Or they just forgot a number. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 04:31, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclone Ului

So when will it get its own article? 121.96.131.167 (talk) 02:30, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounciation of "Ului"

I have no clue how it is down there in the south pacific, I am wondering is it pronounced "oo - looy" which I doubt, or "uhl - yoo - eye", or some other way? Syntheticalconnections (talk) 03:15, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounciation is "yew-lew-eee" from what i have heard. User:sweetbixkid

More trouble with WebCite

It seems to be down again, or at least so slow to respond that requests are all timing out. I will link to bulletins on my private archive until it recovers.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 16:54, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

it seems to be back now.Jason Rees (talk) 18:52, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
