Tavaivaam (Template:Lang-ru) is a village (selo) very close to Anadyr in the Anadyrsky District (Raion) of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, part of the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia.
The village is a small settlement, population as of 2003: 400 [1]. The population is mainly made up of indigenous Chukchi and Eskimo people, meaning that the economy is driven primarily by traditional activity. Reindeer farming used to be the main activity of the village, but following the economic crisis caused by the collapse of the Soviet Union all the reindeer owned by the villagers were lost [1]. The effects of this can still be seen in the fact that around 20% of the villagers are unemployed [1]. The lack of reindeer mean that the economy is instead supported by fishing, seasonal labour and the production of traditional indigenous crafts for sale to tourists and to the population of nearby Anadyr [1].
The village preserves its indigenous culture through the Chukchi language Club Murgin Vetgav and a native crafts society [1].
