DYK for Guy J

On 22 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Guy J, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that progressive house music producer and DJ Guy prefers analog equipment over software, describing its sound as "a bit dirty and warm"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Guy J. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Guy J), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Royal assent FAR

Your conversation at the Royal assent FAR reminds me of the line in the FAR nom instructions: Nominators are strongly encouraged to assist in the process of improvement. I rarely, if ever, see nominators following such a practice. And to be honest, if our most prolific nominators don't heed the "strong encouragement", what's even the point of the instruction? I've long thought about bringing this up at FAR talk, but am afraid that the three nominators who come to my mind as the most "prolific" will see this as nothing but attacking them, and nothing good will come out of it but disagreement and hurt feelings. IDK—the only nom I've had at FAR was Anton Chekhov, where I made it clear that I would be willing to help if a subject-matter expert were able to advise me (which of course, did not come to fruition). There have been many times where I come across a low-quality FA but do not nominate as I would feel too guilty presenting issues without any inclination to fix them. Aza24 (talk) 02:09, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

O thank you Aza24 I though i was going mad. Note that the review was timebound, with a reminder today, but with nothing concrete to work towards. I totally believe in the FAR process, and at onetime was deeply involved...this is why I became hooked on wiki, but its going to suffer in credibility from throw away noms, if they present as deeply imbedded in the process. Also love the pet rat. User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 00:05, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Haha Liz, INXS also a gulity pleasure for me, know a surprising, frightening even, amount of their songs. Your sister in law Sinead was a fan back in the day. Adding this as something Cas might like, given the type of techno articles he has been creating/editing recently. Ceoil (talk) 00:11, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hehehe - mad a page on Dosem...who does sets like this and songs like this and this. groovin' and really into it. Also for a change of pace...this (really nice version). He was the lead singer of this group - other lead singer was Deni Hines - see this she was married to Kirk Pengilly of INXS..as we discussed XD Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 00:13, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Love that Dosem. Worth a listen and also... rather sexy, if it’s allowed to say. User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 00:31, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hehehe, part of that 5volts - Opencluster reminds me of this - oz mainstream postpunk. Like an aussie budget version of spandau ballet Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 00:18, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
He made a better Jim Morrisson than Ian McCulloch. I liked Hutchence best when he was either prancing about in the "never tear us apart" video, or flirting with Paula Yeats on a bed.[7] Have always been sore about the way she was treated. She came across admirably in geldof's bio. But I digress, in my auld, doting, advanced age. Ceoil (talk) 00:27, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Never tear us apart I was lukewarm on. Preferred many others but so many tracks on Kick really rocked. Dunno much about Paula Yates really apart from very peripheral hearsay...Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 00:36, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Here[8] is a much better version of the 5volts track. The difference goes to show how much DJs earn their money. I'm amazed. ps, back in 87/88, you wouldnt get very far with Irish women if you didn't pretend to "totally get" how spiritual and deep Never tear us apart actually was. I may at times have over stated the extent of my enthusiasm at times, but its a nice, melodic, evocative, romantic tune. Ceoil (talk) 00:42, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, my Czech friends love it. User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 00:50, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Mekons are at least as influential as The Fall, if not a better band entirely. Discuss.User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 02:05, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Strokes chin. That's a really thought provoking and interesting axis to consider both bands upon. I don't know off hand is the honest answer, need to think; few days of listening, reading and ugg pondering at least; pro and anti lists may be drawn up. But a genuinely excellent Q. And yes, I am this obsessive and sad. Ceoil (talk) 02:15, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Andrew Harrison (journalist)

On 31 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Andrew Harrison (journalist), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the phrase "landfill indie", coined in 2008 by the English music journalist Andrew Harrison, was intended as a pejorative term to describe the perceived bland guitar rock that dominated the UK charts in the early 2000s? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Andrew Harrison (journalist). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Andrew Harrison (journalist)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Peer review

Hello Ceoil, apologies if this comes across as random, but I wanted to drop by and ask if you'd be willing to leave some comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/Lights Up/archive1. The article was passed as a GA about ten days ago. My GA reviewer, has made comments on how to improve the page, which I've implemented. HĐ suggested to contact you regarding the peer review and I would really appreciate if you could provide advice and suggestions on how to improve the article further. Okay, this was the best INXS song....Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 06:48, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
New to me. "Don't Change" is quite great and goes to show that INXS were unfairly pigeonholed in Europe, compared to how they were seen back home. A bit how Sigue Sigue Sputnik were seen in the states, and outside of London media circles haha, whereas I still think Love Missile F1-11 is easily one of the best singles of the 80s[10] (not kidding, the bassline floored me at the time, and all the FX and (now retro) futuristic imagery and humour still amazes). Oh Jesus, Martin will destroy me over this one, but it was produced by Giorgio Moroder, so. Ceoil (talk) 02:22, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's a pretty good song! I also didn't know it. I like some 80s INXS but only knew as far back as "Original Sin". Moisejp (talk) 02:26, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, and I'm certainly going to dig deeper. Cas....keep the links coming! Ceoil (talk) 02:42, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ha ha ha, I remember Love Missile F1-11. Good laugh and a good song! So 1982 say INXS release Shabooh Shoobah - had 4 singles, this was the first, didn't mind this song. Thought the other singles were better - to look at you was a great love song, and black and white was a great party track - remember jumping around at teenage parties chugging beers to that song. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:00, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Swing was a huge album - great to listen to all the way through, but the first two singles really left me cold, whereas the third was a real goosebump song, one of their best tracks ever. As well as the sublime track that was released as a weird cassette thingy. Oh yeah, and the the title track was vastly underated IMHO - never released as a single or anything... Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:03, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then came Listen Like Thieves - tehy still weren't uber cool yet - this album IIRC tanked a bit, is actually cool to listen to in its entirety. Some cool tracks. First two tracks (both singles) I think were below average, then they released this which was cool, and this - both great tracks. They had also done away with the mullets by this time XD Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:12, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Really like Kiss The Dirt. The keyboard line epically is what makes it, IMO. Listening also to the other tracks; yeah, you have won me over. Ceoil (talk) 03:15, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know people mock the internet and say it will never catch on, but stating the obvious, as you and Liz have shown in this thread, its endlessly useful in expanding musical horizons. Ceoil (talk) 03:19, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ps, re Sigue Sigue Sputnik... Tony James is a very bright and funny guy; his interviews are class and well worth checking out on utube. Ceoil (talk) 03:35, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a busy couple of days, but am definitely looking forward to exploring all of these old INXS tunes. Thank you, Cas Liber! Moisejp (talk) 18:44, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
2nd'd. Nice to have an informed guided overview, esp considering Cas and myself tend to like the same things about individual songs. Ceoil (talk) 22:09, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Cas - that is pretty damn good, and I didn’t know it before! ‘’Kick’’ was the first album of theirs I’d ever heard. They all look so young and so Sing Street in there his video! User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 22:41, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Late to the party, but Cas, these links are great! Thank you. User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 22:52, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dresden Triptych

Dresden Triptych has been tentatively scheduled to run as a TFA in March. This means that it needs a blurb writing. Normally I would do this, but as you co-nominated it, I thought that I would give you first refusal. If for whatever reason you don't fancy this, I am entirely happy to produce a draft for you and Victoria to check over in the normal manner. Cheers. Gog the Mild (talk) 17:12, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gog, will have a crack at it over the weekend and thanks for offer. Ceoil (talk) 22:24, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping Gog. I can't get to it, but will watch over Ceoil's shoulder - so to speak. For some reason thought this had run years ago - thrilled! Victoria (tk) 01:02, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Me too, what a trip down memory lane. One of the, if not the, finest of the van Eyck's...maybe why we tackled it so early. Pls bty feel free to fix my lousy prose when I get to in in next day or so. Ceoil (talk) 01:05, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have the head for it right now; hubby's having a bit of a health issue and I'm a bit distracted. But I can watch & maybe make fixes. ping, btw Victoria (tk) 01:15, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I know. Have made a stab here[12]; will revisit tomorrow at some stage. Laters, as they say. Ceoil (talk) 02:08, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me. Hits all the major points. Nice pic you have up top here :) Victoria (tk) 19:35, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great...have moved to the FAC talk for the coordinators to review. Re the pic, yeah. Its meaningful to me for several reasons, have a framed copy in our hall, and its a shame that it has not been better studied....the article is frustratingly short. Ceoil (talk) 22:16, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I downloaded sources for it, like more than a decade ago. Will check to see if I still have them. Will let you know. Nice that you have a framed pic of it. It reminds me very much of someone who is dear to me. Tks for the Dresden work. Victoria (tk) 22:31, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Re Dresden, are you ok with the crop (reading a book :)) rather than the full triptych as lead image? Ceoil (talk) 22:34, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I'm happy with the crop! Victoria (tk) 22:35, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Glad, as though you might be :) The motif is endlessly fascinating and strikes a deep chord, said the man who married a libririan. Ceoil (talk) 03:26, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I thought I'd be able to swing through to check stuff, i.e image formatting, etc before the end of the month. But it's already mid-month and it's really doubtful I'll be able to get to it. Just thought I'd let you know, fwiw & all that. Hope all is well. Victoria (tk) 21:48, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Weile Weile Waila redux

[13] I can post the lyrics, but perhaps Google is your friend. User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 23:20, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Holy fuck. Although dressed up as a childrens tune, www is really a murder ballad. I really loved listening to "Modir Min I Kvi, Kvi" with you, but how you find that stuff, will never know. Ceoil (talk) 23:22, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I has my ways. No, I asked a friend who specialises in folklore about this, and she pointed this out. User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 23:32, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I guess what am am asking is, WWW is one of the most brutal folk songs I have ever heard, and I have heard a lot. How is that turned into a children’s song? User:Kafka Liz a girl is no one 23:38, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Its because of the catchy melody, call and response lyrics (down by the river saile), and the even 4/4 meter which you can tap your foot, or bang your shins to.. Also the sound of the words Weile Weile Waila at first listen are like the playful nonsense phrasing that kids tend to grab onto. Also it sounds like they might be singing about willies, which we often giggled about at that age. However, it was a song i hated at the time, was thought it by De La Salle Brothers, so it was sung in a very regimented, dry, uncontextualised, and joyless manner. Ceoil (talk) 00:02, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Oh yes !!!! Funny you sound mention. Hearing this[17] is why in 1988 I spiked my hair and started wearing a padlock and leather. You did what you always do, blindly swoop in and just delete. A contributor (ie somebody who has the project's aims in mind) would have trimmed the nn and cited those worth keeping. You did not, so....thanks for nothing. Ceoil (talk) 00:51, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That you say that none of examples of the song permeating the popular culture are "relevant" just goes to show why again and again, almost everybody thnks your whole premise for being is wrong, iditioc, baffling. Your need to seriously consider if you are actually adding (see what I did there) value with your hobby. And I say this a person who leans deletionist, but buddy...you give the rest of us a bad name. Ceoil (talk) 00:58, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you two are having fun with your little feud. User:Kafka Liz Your wife is less than no one 16:45, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would be happy to help find sources for this article, though it may be difficult. This song meant so, so much to me as a teen in the 80s. Let’s work to make the encyclopaedia better, rather than tearing each other down :) Yes, Í ínclude myself there. User:Kafka Liz Your wife is less than no one 18:06, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a plan Liz. Ceoil (talk) 20:31, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lindsey Graham Talk Page

Hi Ceoil. I'm really sorry if you thought my comment was "passive aggressive." I was just trying to convey that the edit was a tad too inappropriate for the lead, and I even agreed with a couple of the points you made. However, I was a little offended when you said I had a "sensitive, bordering hysterical, personality" and that I was a "bit touchy and easily offended." I know there is a content dispute, but that felt awfully personal. Dr. Swag Lord (talk) 02:35, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, fair enough User:Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d. Apologies, comments were grossly unfair. Have stuck these on the talk page. Ceoil (talk) 23:29, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This might not be very cool, but as you like Jack L's Celtic take on Scott Walker, here is a not as good, but stirring, guilty pleasure.[24] Ceoil (talk) 02:02, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A favour?

Hi - so I wrote an article about the new Mogwai album, As the Love Continues. And I wondered, could I make this a GA? (as the last time I tried to write a music-related one it went quite poorly). If you have a moment, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 05:34, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

great idea! The album is an instant classic. Will take a look in a few days. Ceoil (talk) 09:40, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cups

Remember when you helped me with "Cups (song)"? I was wondering if you still want to help me bring it up to FA? If you don't want to, I totally understand. The Ultimate Boss (talk) 05:13, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ultimate, would love for this to be re-nommed, but it needs a bit of work as of yet, and my do to do list is long. Will help in in 4 to 5 weeks...if you dont hear by then, ping again. Nest. Ceoil (talk) 00:28, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ceoil. I added "Cups" to FAC if you're still interested. The Ultimate Boss (talk) 02:33, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An article you may be interested in, Jessi Slaughter cyberbullying case, has just been undeleted. Any help you could give to this, included BLP-related edits, would be very much appreciated. --Bangalamania (talk) 11:43, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole, but your decision. User:Kafka Liz A girl is no one 00:13, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wholeheartedly agree with Liz, this 4/chan alike confusion of fact and fiction should not be on wiki; strongly in favour of deletion. Let me know when nomed. Ceoil (talk) 00:23, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing Roskill edits

Why did you undo my Roskill edits, and what does "not reffed" mean? I'm just curious; the edits were not important, just a bit helpful, I thought.

Sorry, that was a bit rude without explaining, but you stuck in a "Roskill also..." construct without explaining who Roskill is, why he matters, and did not provide a reference to back whatever you tried to claim. Ceoil (talk) 14:23, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Honan Chapel scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Honan Chapel article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 2, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 2, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:33, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Emo

Don't worry, your comments made me chuckle. One day I will convince you to give the least punk emo album of all time, American Football, a listen. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 03:55, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and phew; glad still internet friends. I do like some emo, but am a few years older, so not A LOT. The closest we had at the time (1991), when I were a lad we were all were the cure, wedding present, and this [28]. Anyway, be well. Ceoil (talk) 04:11, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Dele Fadele

On 20 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dele Fadele, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the death of NME music journalist Dele Fadele was not known within the music industry for more than two years after the fact? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dele Fadele. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Dele Fadele), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello. FAC is suffering from template overload, so when you make your comments at the Mysteries of Isis FAC, it looks like it would be advisable to put any detailed comments on the FAC talk page. A. Parrot (talk) 14:28, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
