Parking

Thanks for adding the pics into the draft for me, Hafspajen, it's very much appreciated! I've a long way to go on it yet but I've managed to find plenty of refs to use. I'm just hoping that once the weather improves - it's a bit wet and miserable today - I'll then be able to get some pictures of the mausoleum, which is in some woodland a little distance from the main house and up a rather rough muddy track. I think to get Drmies to notice (s)he is sitting in the Cultural depictions of dogs article, you might need to link his/her name in the caption? SagaciousPhil - Chat 13:57, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Drat and double drat, I see you noticed the delicate lean on the main house picture? And here I was thinking I could start a new tourist attraction, a bit like the Leaning Tower of Pisa! SagaciousPhil - Chat 16:24, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot help you restore breakfast, this month anyways. But with any luck, we can bring in some newcomers to balance out the deletionists. Toy galleries

Hello, we previously had some discussions about toy galleries, at Talk:Teddy bear and Talk:Toy, which inspired me to create a gallery at Dollhouse#Gallery. You can also see there what I mean about having encyclopedic information about the contents of the images. I hope you like it! By the way, I don't know if you noticed already, but if you're interested in creating toy galleries, many of the articles in Category:Traditional toys and subcategories have plenty of free images available that would make for good galleries without copyright troubles. Cheers, Siawase (talk) 20:03, 23 May 2014 (UTC) Very nice! Well done. Hafspajen (talk) 20:09, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you kindly! :) Siawase (talk) 20:12, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, it is correct, this is a very good gallery, timeline, illustrating a point, and so on. The trouble with the bears was that it was very little info on them in the common files, so I was only guessing. Hafspajen (talk) 20:09, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You did a very good job. Hafspajen (talk) 20:28, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think I understand better now why the teddy bear gallery you created turned out the way it did. It's near impossible to create good galleries when the information about the images just isn't there. Cheers. Siawase (talk) 20:34, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • (talk page stalker)The file is derived from a Bonhams illustration for a sale of 19th century pictures, held in 2012. The auction listing doesn't give a date. I've just checked a couple of Sotheby's catalogues- four listings of Allingham watercolours, none dated (and one had the title and her signature on the reverse, so it looks like she didn't date them). According to the Helen Allingham Society she was painting until her death in 1926- so it could be as late as the 1920s. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 07:45, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think it's time for us to start composing special poems for Hafs. This being wikipedia, the first drafts would, naturally, be somewhat cracked. Wildly guessing that haf means half, which perhaps it doesn't, and with profound apologies to James F. Hanley and co-authors:
    • Half a pie is better than no pie, any old time, any old where.
    • A pie in the quarter, or even much shorter, ask anyone's daughter,

Good to have.

If an editor has previously posted their own personal information but later redacted it, it should not be repeated on Wikipedia; if the previously posted information has been removed by oversight, then repeating it on Wikipedia is considered outing. Myself and Victoria are intending to take Last Judgement (van der Weyden) to FAC in the next few days. Can you take a look over please, re wording, image placement, and so forth. Any input appreciated. Paul Ceoil (talk) 09:49, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, image placement - I will look. But wording might not be my strong side. Maybe CorinneSD will like to look at that one? What do you say, Corinne? Hafspajen (talk) 10:02, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are a lot of images to choose from, and I'm not sure I've always made the right choices. You are free here. Ceoil (talk) 10:06, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK: will look on the choice. Hafspajen (talk) 10:07, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The thing is if you are are very close to an article you develop blind spots, and need other eyes to slap you about the face. Ceoil (talk) 10:15, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Are you OK with Corinne if she say yes? She has quite an eye for grammar. Hafspajen (talk) 10:18, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Would be delighted! Ceoil (talk) 10:24, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Overall, a good choice I think. All the pictures are good choices. One picture is a bit weak, this: File:Rogier van der Weyden - The Last Judgment (detail) - WGA25634.jpg, not the composition but the quality. You may want to try this one instead -> File:Weyden, Rogier van der - The Last Judgment (detail) -1446-52.jpg or maybe try a donor or something from this gallery? Hafspajen (talk) 11:58, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I give you free reign to decide. Its obvious you have an intutive skill at this. Please continue, my friend. Ceoil (talk) 14:38, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(And a little traing in art school, and other art education... ) Don't want to mess up the themes, that is the problem. Hafspajen (talk) 14:48, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just came over to thank you for the image placement there (very nice!), and see that Ceoil has already been here. Anyway, I'm happy, in particular, to see the detail of the donor. Also, this is a little late, but sorry for being crabby at Jan van Eyck. I wasn't cross with you; more with myself for not having expanded the text there. But that's now been done, no thanks to me, so all's well! Thanks again. Victoria (tk) 15:26, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!" ...

Rose colours

File:Ice Sculpture on Zhongyang St. Harbin.jpg

Hi Hafs, could you lend your expert eye to this template, which I think is not good. The colours look quite wrong on my computer, with pale pink not pale, orange/vermillion/red nearly indistinguishable, magenta/purple/deep pink likewise much the same. Also, the categories don't seem to be the best choices for roses. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 20:49, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • You are quite right. Not for roses, that will not do. Roses have a very different color-scale, from the very light pink - almost white - to the light pink - and light pink on the bluish shade, versus light pink tinge on the varm side, the clear pink, and the warm-darkpink-reds and the cool reds . And the light pink with a salmon teint, those are quite difficult colours. The cold pinks going darker are also very difficult - going over into magenta... And then we have the very dark scale, almost brown versus the dark purple. And this is only the pinks and dark pinks. And the red-oranges, yellows, cream coloured roses - and so on. No - it will not do. Hafspajen (talk) 20:58, 29 June 2014 (UTC).[reply]
Thanks Hafs. I've taken out all usages of the template and left an explanation on its talk page, so that's a step in the right direction. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 16:20, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We'd need to make it more prominent in the article, but what's your opinion of this? Adam Cuerden (talk) 17:02, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Very nice, and a better place is doable. I would cut of just a little - NOT much, just sightly of the foregroung. It would be beneficial for the composition. But I would not touch the reflection in the water and leave quite a bit under the bridge reflection too. Crop off about ... half of the distance between the reflection of the bridge in the water and the edge of the pic as it is now. Hafspajen (talk) 17:08, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That does cut off the top of the pagoda reflection on the right, though. Is that a problem? Adam Cuerden (talk) 21:50, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I meant that the pagoda reflection should be the last thing seen in water. Not a problem, but it will make the picture closer to the Golden ratio. Hafspajen (talk) 21:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Virgin of the Rocks

That nice bright image appears to have been extensively digitally enhanced. I have already reverted it once previously, for that reason. Amandajm (talk) 17:36, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean it would be a good idea to leave that image in the article for the time being? The painting is in fairly poor condition, and was transferred from wood to canvas, which is often problematic. I presume that the panel had borer or it wouldn't have been done. I don't know how we are going to get a better one. It would have to come from the Louvre. Amandajm (talk) 17:52, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Whatewer solution it will be fine. Hafspajen (talk) 17:59, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Re textiles, I wonder if I could persuade the local Art Gallery to let me photograph some of their stunning collection of Indonesian textiles.
The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney has a great collection of lace. Not a huge amount, but some top quality pieces, one of the finest bobbin-lace cravats that I have ever seen.
The cravat came from a woman from Vienna, I think. She just walked in one day, when the curator was feeling rather ill and thought "Oh No, not granny's crochetted doilies". The woman unwrapped this glorious piece of lace. The family was Jewish, and before they fled in 1939, each person took a single small treasure from their home. This girl took the cravat, wrapped up in a handkerchief, tucked up the leg of her bloomers. All those years later, she donated to the museum of Applied Arts and Sciences a.k.a. the Powerhouse.
It's really late in the Great South Land. I have been up most of the night! I had better get some sleep. Toodle-oo! Amandajm (talk) 18:05, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How sad in a way, this story... and how nice also. It is always sad when people had to leave everything behind... Bur hopfully she did made herself a new good life and had the courage to let this treasure of her go, now. Hafspajen (talk) 18:33, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hafs,

Thank you for all of your contributions! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:31, 2 July 2014 (UTC) Crisco 1492 .... maybe ... (human) lover of the goddess, father of Aeneas... or something like that. 'Fun you chosed this one. Hafspajen (talk) 01:07, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Richmond wished to paint large, allegoric works. "An allegory conveys its hidden message through symbolic figures, actions, imagery, and/or events". So… Richmond paints Anchises with his fist grasping a twig at a suggestive angle. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 06:56, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That was too... symbolic for me .. angle? 45... degree, Xanty ? Hafspajen (talk) 10:00, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I was trying to work out what Anchises held in his hand- it seems to be a twig, maybe broken off in a moment of passion as he glimpses Aphrodite. Can't work out what the doves are supposed to symbolise though (in this story)- maybe cat food for the two tabbies. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 06:30, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is no problem, Xanthomelanoussprog. The Dove and the Lions are indeed symbols. The dove is the sacred animal of Venus, for sure. And the lions - might be too. Hafspajen (talk) 11:09, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your Russian saint

A dog attempts to escape from the odor of Lutefisk

I fed part of the Russ WP article [18] into Bing [19] and got the following predictably garbled translation, from which you probably could glean enough for a caption.

Míša-Samuil (real name Mikhail Lazarev; 1848 — 23 February [8 March] 1907)-pereslavsky whacky, revered in orthodoxy as he was canonized a Saint of Yaroslavl diocese.
Mikhail Lazarev was born into a peasant family of Yam, located near Pereslavl. The name "Samuel" added people as monašestvuûŝemu person for his strict Virgin life, after the death of Samuel, priest of St. Nicholas monastery.
With Misha's craziness. An eight year old boy he predicted Moore on the people in his village, and the villagers have demanded to kick him. It has sheltered in his cell, hieromonk Nicholas monastery, Samuel, who was the spiritual father of the boy.
Misha has spent all his life, wandering the city and its surroundings. Often visited Trinity slobodka, liked to be in the House where the beznogogo peasant Simeon Vukolova (now the House of 21).

Does that help? Sca (talk) 15:25, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • From Google-> Mikhail Lazarev was born in a peasant family Yam village located near Pereslavl. The name "Samuel" added people as monasticism person for his strict virgin life, after the death of Samuel, celibate priest of St. Nicholas Monastery.

Since childhood, Mike took over foolishness. Eight year old lad he predicted plague on the people in his village, and the peasants demanded oust him. Sheltered him in his cell Nikolsky monastery monk Samuel, who became the spiritual father of the boy.

Throughout his life, Misha spent wandering around the city and its surroundings. Frequented Trinity 'Village, where he loved to be in the house of the peasant drunk Vukolova Simeon (now house 21).

I suppose "legless" doesn't mean "drunk"! Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 16:36, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If we ever get outta of here
Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash
As we fell into the sun,
And the first one said to the second one there
I hope you're having fun.
Band on the run, band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor Sam
Were searching every one
For the band on the run,
Band on the run

Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh
Seeing no one else had come,
And a bell was ringing in the village square
For the rabbits on the run.
Band on the run,
And the jailer man and sailor Sam
Were searching every one
For the band on the run,
Band on the run

Well, the night was falling as the desert world
Began to settle down.
In the town they're searching for us everywhere
But we never will be found.
Band on the run,
Band on the run.
And the county judge who held a grudge
Will search for evermore
For the band on the run,
Band on the run

Padre Pio

Hi Sir,

Carbolic acid does not contain chlorine, and thus it is not chloric; it is merely a benzene ring with an alcohol group bounded to it. I meant to write the word choleric and noticed the typo yesterday. The word choleric CAN refer to a person who is bad tempered or peevish, but also to an irritable substance. I will use the word "caustic" instead of "choleric" because its meaning is perhaps more apropos from your viewpoint.

As I've already mentioned, choleric can refer to temperament but also to anything irritable; would it be malapropos to say that is a substance is irritable? However you look at it, cabolic acid certainly is NOT chloric; it does not contain chlorine. Thank you for leaving the word "caustic" unedited, however.

Mmm, caustic is better. Hafspajen (talk) 18:40, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry that I haven't been very communicative. I have been having a little crisis on the other side of the world! Things seem to be sorting out, but I will be very busy for a few weeks. I would love to have a look at the Rembrandt article, but I will have to leave it for a little while longer. Meanwhile, I'll take a look at those images you have put on my page, and get back... oh bother! I have just got yet another text message to answer. Bye for now! DYK nomination of Évariste Vital Luminais

Hello! Your submission of Évariste Vital Luminais at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! CeeGee 10:27, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article now looks fantastic. Of course I like it! Thank you very much! :) --Goose friend (talk) 13:38, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's right! Uhde depicts it in each one of his paintings about Jesus. I know of no other artist that captures this feeling so well, and he painted many of these scenes. You might also like his paintings Sermon at the sea, Sermon on the mount, Lord, Stay with us, Road to Emmaus 1, Road to Emmaus 2, Road to Emmaus 3, The Sermon, The Lord's Supper (2), Christ healing the sick, and Grace. These paintings are outstanding but some are in black and white because they were taken from an old book and I've not been able to find them all in color. Anyways, Uhde had things to say about this. How I'd love to see a revival of this kind of art!--Goose friend (talk) 14:18, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hafspajen, I don't know what to make of this. You're referring to the Coat, of course--but I don't see much in the way of harassment there, just a comment: they're not even opposing. As I said before, this isn't something that an admin can do anything about. If there truly is a problem and it needs addressing, it will have to be done by editors, by conversation, by consensus. And those editors should be people who are well acquainted with the FP process, obviously. Sorry. Drmies (talk) 02:26, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that is basically the problem - they're not even opposing. Everybody keeps quiet and are intimidated. You don't know how the atmosphere was before. Only project people were civil and used npov language, oh those good old days... At least someting that I experienced as rather disturbing. I nominated a beautiful picture that I really thought was chaming, beautiful and wonderful, and that was not at ALL such crap shit and worhless bullshit as this editor succeded to look like, made me humiliated for my choice, made the other editor humiliated, the one who edited it; edited it perfectly after the acceptable standards - removing aging signs a little but but not deceitfult, - and all this with no consideration or interest for anyones feelings, criticinzing not the work but the people in the nomination, both, not in a NPOV way, but the most UNneutral way using words as horrible silly, and derisory- and so on - not a constructive critizizm that we use to have before; but most certainly the most unconstructive criticizm ever since I have seen any FPs. This one here->Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/File:Portrait de Jeanne d'Aragon, by Raffaello Sanzio, from C2RMF retouched.jpg.
Now it is chewing the Bixby letter and belive it or not - this kind of nominations were not standard before. Just suddenly pops oup from nowhere, and even if you think all those resoning sounds wise - it is not. It is somebody talking about art who doesn't have a clue actually. I am worried about what is happening while it is on. People who are uncertain might take this seriously, if not informed ot bother checking what's there actually.
  • As for the guidelines.:

Digital manipulation for the purpose of correcting flaws in an image is generally acceptable, provided it is limited, well-done, and not intended to deceive. - For historic images, acceptable manipulations might include digitally fixing rips, removal of stains, cleanup of dirt, and, for mass-produced artworks such as engravings, removal of flaws inherent to the particular reproduction, such as over-inking. Careful colour adjustments may be used to bring out the original work from the signs of ageing, (EXACLY WHAT Dcoetzee DID) though care should be taken to restore a natural appearance.

There was absolutelly NOTHING to shout horrible silly, and derisory for. Digital manipulations must not deceive the viewer - but there was nothing that DID. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING: but people are scared off by the conflicts, lack of interest to a very long thread and few people care to read all that in order to support or oppose... Just destroying the project. I really don't mind if somebody is telling me a valid point, but telling off a lot off weird things in a particulary unpleasant way - I do mind, and C.o.m.c. does this, and who knows maybe is time for a new wikibreak, Drmies. Hafspajen (talk) 02:54, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AND NOW I SEE THAT IT HAD THE GUTS TO EDIT right in the middle of the nomination text, AND IT IS *******NOT******** her nomination, but mine, right, making it look like it was witdrawn or what, well, it is enough, Drmies. Hafspajen (talk) 03:14, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Think also nominating the same picture I had, Drmies, same disrespectful behaviour towards other peoples boundaries, right, unconcern for the feelings of others, the attitude of irresponsibility, a low threshold for discharge of aggression, incapacity to experience guilt or to profit from experience, marked readiness to blame others and to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior that has brought the person into conflict - and what do we have. Something blowing in the wind. Hafspajen (talk) 03:30, 24 July 2014 (UTC)::Drmies Hafspajen (talk) 07:13, 24 July 2014 (UTC)?[reply]

Hafs, please see this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/File:The_Scream_Pastel.jpg#Edvard_Munch_-_The_Scream_.28pastel.29. I have now made another comment. My reply now sets a precedent for unpleasant conduct. It is not just you to perceive that one can really get feelings hurt and treated roughly by participating in FP. It should not have to be an hostile environment. It should be enjoyable. I am sorry, and if you wish to go to a board to complain, as Drmies suggests, I will participate. Although I am not necessarily suggesting this. Complaint boards can make one cry as well. Fylbecatulous talk 14:48, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gosh, Fylbecatulous, I am really sorry. I really am. I am sorry. Hafspajen (talk) 17:15, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look through Coat's contribution history, and (after a summary reading) the snarkiness seems to have started back in March of this year (after some dispute over an image of Oscar Pistorius' trial). In my opinion, you're being subtly trolled (Coat used the term MSM (main-stream media) back in 2013- that's in the troll lexicon along with "false flag" and "sheeple") I'd back away and leave Coat to it for a while- Coat says they're going "off-planet" anyway (I'm not long for this world). The rest is smoke and mirrors- Coat's hints that they fear their real-life identity will be revealed, leading to embarrassment as their ex-colleagues find out they've been editing Wikipedia- well, Coat, don't even tell us you have vindictive ex-colleagues, especially one of which at least I know edits Wikipedia quite actively. You pair are more valuable than a patchwork garment; allow your emotions to heal before deciding on a course of action. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 17:01, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, Xanty, I know this. I think I know even the reason behind. Wish people would reflect more - and would learn to know themselfs instead of acting out their ... problems. Hafspajen (talk) 17:15, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And, Xanty, why don't you tell this to Drmies, being subtly trolled - he is the admin and the expert. Hafspajen (talk) 18:33, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hafspajen, I believe this will all turn out well and that peace will return to Featured Pictures. I now have deftly placed Coat in checkmate, with no room to make more harassing snarks without apologising to me. As well, you have rang the admin bells by pinging Crisco 1492 and Drmies. Although I believe it is in the middle of the night where Crisco is located, someone will soon show up to see the chaos that has occurred. As well, Coat has not made another edit since the last to me and has now left a notice on their talk page stating they will away from a computer throughout August. Although I do not wish bad thoughts on an unwell person, this situation with FP has to return to love and roses. I will continue to do whatever I can to fight this battle. I am actually a long-time fan of Impressionism, anyway (excepting Monet; he has been too commercialised). Fylbecatulous talk 19:04, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Crisco 1492 and Drmies has the habit of sleeping through the different exitments. Hafspajen (talk) 19:13, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The good doctor contacted me at breakfast time (that is, breakfast time for me)- he is very concerned about the situation but doesn't know the best course of action. I am a recent fan of Walter Sickert- his townscapes seem to have a strong atmosphere. One favourite is the Pierrots at Brighton- twilight, artificial light, melancholy. I wonder what Patricia Cornwell's got in her collection? (sarcasm) Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 20:27, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, astoundingly, Coats has ignored my request for apology and instead has posted another comment reiterating that I am not courteous if I do not 'strike my oppose'. (sigh......) Fylbecatulous talk 01:05, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am unfortunately not surprised. This will go on like this until somebody stops it, because this editor enjoys creating chaos. I think that this editor is the same one as a banned editor here, -> Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ChildofMidnight/Archive - who felt that s/he has to find a new nisch, where s/he can silently survive and have some fun without being noticed. Somewhere around me, maybe because we were friens once upon a time. See that discussion on. User talk:Hafspajen/Archive 1#SPI II. That editor had so many socks that it was unbelivable. And most probably several sleepers everywhere. As Drmies said there: He'll be back, no doubt, flying under the radar. As long as he can exercise more proper manners I may not have much of a problem with it, and we may never find out. - Now the problem is that this editor can't exercise proper manners, that is one of the great common points here. I couldn't stop her/him either, I tried but - no. You saw that too. It may be that I am wrong, but even if I am, it is just as bad as the other editor - making just enough trouble. That fear of getting into an investigaion - their real-life identity will be revealed - I think is more a fear that the above will be revealed. The admin who will dare dealing - if anyone will - with this editor, will have shit shrown in his face - for sure. Kelapstick‎ maybe, he was one of the admins who piled up evidence. But this place is not big enought right now for both of us. Hafspajen (talk) 01:26, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, no. Very different areas, very different mechanical and grammatical qualities, totally different style. There is nothing they have in common. ChildofMidnight is not such a good student that he'd be able to change colors like this. Believe me: I worked with him for years, and I spent weeks on that SPI. Drmies (talk) 19:05, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Was just online for few minutes, saw your message. Baby you are the most innocent, lovely, easy to fool and full of good will man, I ever met - and I love you, Drmies. You don't really think s/he will admit it? Haven't you noticed a certain talent at bluffing? Wow, now. People don't change. But I do like your innocence. And I am sorry to contradict you - but s/he is smart. Smarter and more elaborated then you think - and a great actress or actor. Hafspajen (talk) 19:24, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Why? People can move, live at a hotel, buy a new computer, because the old one got broke. Same spelling errors, (less) same kind of wording - same three sentences (but now carefully edited sometimes) - and more so especially in the beggining, when he/she was not scared to be discovered. S/he is not stupid. Don't you think that she/he learned while reading your investigation? You thought her/him how to avoid doing the same mistakes - because you were telling him/her just exactly how you discovered that she was she (or he). S/he is not going to go back to edit the same articles again, no, not now when banned a year from editing - no it has to be something completely new. Take my word for it that this user has no idea about art - but loves to stir things up. As the Franciscan friar William of Baskerville said in the book The Name of the Rose: If you wan't to find the horse, imagine being that horse and go where the horse would. This trace goes to FP, a new nisch, an old friend - who is considered not owerly brillinant.. (that's me - the one with the poor undeständåing of English) - well, not true but that is what s/he thinks... (IQ 154, but don't tell anyone - my English IS poor). S/he probably found that I am not as lost on the field of arts and a poor little rabbit as s/he thought of me in general, crying for help to edit articles and asking for correcting my spelling. All those academic studies help. So that was a little bit of a bad surprize. So now we are competing - s/he is competing with me and wants to win - and what s/he doesn't have in knowledge tries to add in incivility and bossines and - (her/his expertise) - and - s/he wants to show that she is better on this than me - but this is my field, you know. So that is the psychological aspect. Either way - s/he is a Wikipedia:Disruptive user. There is a fine line on Wikipedia between users offering critical analysis and advice on other users and their work, and people simply attacking other users and articles without warrant or cause. That line is passed. Have fun and take care, Drmies. Hafspajen (talk) 02:11, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bless you CorinneSD, for [21]. May all the angels in heaven guard you on you way, Corinne, and may they guard you constantly - because you had the courage to stand up for Fylbecatulous, and saying what you said - more courage than some. Take care and have fun. Hafspajen (talk) 03:28, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, thanks from me as well, CorinneSD. (Forgive me, Hafs, for pinging from your page. I din't ping anyone from the thread... sorry). I have also spoken my mind there and also asked for the images that were placed by Coat to taunt you to be removed by an admin. I have explained to the best of my ability the hostile atmosphere (not only for this one discussion, but to the FP overall). If only an admin would show up to look at the project page. I guess it is the weekend. In kindness and solidarity, all the best. Fylbecatulous talk 15:58, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Madonna of the Harpies by Andre del Sarto

I agree that I can't tell if the figures on the pedestal of Andrea del Sarto's painting are harpies, but they were interpreted as such and thus gave rise, in English, to the name of the painting. Rococo1700 (talk) 16:02, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Rococo1700 in that case it is maybe better to say as you said here: they were interpreted as such and thus gave rise, in English, to the name of the painting. That would be just fine. Hafspajen (talk) 17:18, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Enough

Do you not yet see or understand?

Yes, Drmies; you are right, and they did won. I am not going to edit Wikipedia like this. - I am leaving Wikipedia - because there is obviously no help to get.

You are one of those tough guys who can manage to take as much shit that I am sometimes surprized of it - even if you put that terrible picture on you userpage - by Artemisia Gentileschi - you are managing very well. I am not like you.

I was trying to convince you that this user Coat of Many Colours:

No matter who he is - he is highly disruptive. He is engaging in behavior that is unacceptable for Wikipedia and he causes loads of disruption, and nobody cares. Coat's first edit is from 14 November 2013 ? Quite an accomplished editor for such short time. Just about a half a year - and knows everything about Wiki already. He is not a newbeginner - even if his account is only half a year old, he edited from 2013-11-14 until today 2014 -07 - 31. He knows a lot about Wikipedia. Do half a year old accounts usually go strait to Jimbo Wales talk page, [22], [23] start voting for administrators [24], [25] and edits Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee: [26], [27] ????

He is some banned user - attempting to evade disciplinary actions by using this practice, editing a small number of pages and getting involved in this project that very few people watch or can judge - the F. Picture. It is all described att the Wikipedia:Disruptive editing - (English Wikipedia behavioral guideline), for what is worth. No matter who he is - is not the great art genius he thinks he is in art, and definitly not a higher-ranked professional about art and art history but a big empty words when it comes to art - or even worse - comments like "This kind of processing is just silly, inauthentic, and derisory" - those are not arguments - those are NOTHING. (whoever he is - even if he is the King of England )

That whoever he is - he just behaved unacceptable towards me, he is clearly harrasing me, and nobody cared except Fylbecatulous and CorinneSD who mananged to say one or two sharp words of thruth, God bless them for that - but none of them are administrators an both are good fait editors who don't know much about socking, evading banns and that kind of stuff. -- Demiurge1000 tried to point out something - but if anyone keeps reading the page - water of the ducks back. But everybody else keeps quiet. Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. And considering how he behaved towards me I don't belive it for a second he will stop. That guy is sick - and he is a banned user - as sure as my username was Warrington and was changed to Hafspajen.

And yes I feel both bad and I an upset - right. He defeated me in front off all those people and made fun of me - on the one field where I am really an expert - and I am really an expert and I do know what I am talking about when it comes to art - while everybody is just watching silently and keeping quiet- - and he is obviously incivil, disruptive and unpleasant and nobody cares.

Just imagine the same thing happening to you imagine some guy coming around and making fun of you, Drmies, and destroying everything for you on some linguistic project where you really know what it is all about - but the bullying guy is using fine terms and convinvcing everyone and everything that you are the person who doesn't get it - not him - and the things you say are not true - and doing this to you repeatedly? And is making every move you do into a circus, following you arround everywhere, reverting even your withdrawn nomination... And goes on doing this under a long time - interfearing with you in the most uncivilized way - and all your friends whom you trusted and loved just don't move a finger for you.

I grow up in a home with artists (half of the family are artist while the other half physicians), I went to art school for 4 years, studied drawing and painting extra two years private, and studied yet art history two years. Plus I have the landscape architect exam - my profession - that is also about - in a way - visual arts, composition, colours and also space. Have you counted how many FP pictures I succeded to nominate - in a relatively short period? 15 - right - or maybe 16 - is this because I don't have a clue?

He who has ears let him hear he who has eyes let him see. Thanks anyway to Fylbecatulous, Demiurge1000 and CorinneSD - who at least tried to stop this insanity while others only were watching or made some helpful comment in the middle of this conceptual fireworks display of violations of all Wikipedia interaction norms. Yes, we have gudelines, we have policies - a nice decoration that sounds good - but while others can count on me - I can obviously not count on them. Coat isn't one of Salman's children. For someone who expresses concern that they might be "outed" Coat sure has posted a lot of personal information on Wikipedia. Coat's alleged field of expertise is computer algorithms (I have experience in this area, so I doubt it). Coat has started one article in the mathematical field, a kind of "conspiracy cypher" type thing. Is Coat English or American? Coat uses outdated English slang and English spellings of some words, current American slang and American spellings of others (Coat claims to have attended an exhibition in London at the beginning of the year). And now Coat's off for a month's holiday in Dubai (the hottest month of the year there) on the beach. I call bull. We shall see. 86.148.239.64 (talk) 06:58, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Encouragement

Hafs, I am so sorry. You are welcome for what I did, even if it has thus far been to no avail. I would and will continue to make a fool of myself as a willing sacrifice to save FP's project on your behalf. It is obviously true that I love art; my daughter was the assistant for the administrator of the state Museum of Art where I live and I spent many good times dressing to the nines and drinking wine at gatherings. However, I know absolutely nothing about being a painter, technique or art history. Yet I remain willing to seem a fool on the projects page just to assist you in your quest to restore peace.

I cannot help you with the sockpuppet issue, but if it helps: I do believe you are correct. This is why I don't mind making fun of him now. I find it particularly amusing that he made fun of me on the mallard duck's submission. I said 'my feathers will never be ruffled' in reference to if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is a duck. I really wanted to say "your goose will soon be cooked". Alas, I have no power to do more about this issue.

I am going to say now that I absolutely adore you and I am happy when you place images on my talk page and try to encourage me. You seem to recognise that I need cheering up sometimes. Please take time away if you must, in order to find your balance. Please return when you can. Missing you if you are away. If you read this, please know there are those of us who deeply care for you. All the best (and paw pats from dogs and cats) Fylbecatulous talk 15:26, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hafspajen, I was so happy to see the notice that I was mentioned on your talk page. Maybe it was just an automated notice, but I was still happy. I second everything Fylbecatulous said, especially the last paragraph. I did not realize until I read what you wrote above that things were so bad. If you left WP, many people, including myself, would be very sad. I'd like to suggest that you make a formal complaint -- you'll need to find the right WP site -- and draw up a succinct numbered list of actions by Coat, kind of what you wrote above, with links to edits, and refer to specific violation of WP policies. (You could use your sandbox to prepare it.) I've seen this done, and it works. If you need help, ask User:Dougweller. You shouldn't have to go through this any more, and I'm sure you have, or will have, support. Wikipedia is lucky to have you as an editor, and we are all glad to know you. I hope you stay and continue editing. I don't know anything about sockpuppetry and know very little about the complaint process, but let me know if I can help with wording your complaint. I would love the image cropped to a landscape version of just the right creatures (2 blue in the foreground), Hafspajen or whoever is willing, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:09, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Can you explain a bit more, Gerda as I'm not really very good at this - do you mean to take a bit more off the bottom of the image because, yes, that is easily done? SagaciousPhil - Chat 20:51, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would like the same width, but a little more bottom, and more height/building, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

hope over experience

  • I am terribly sorry, I thought I'd posted here. Please don't leave - in the last few days we seem to have the possibility of 4 good editors leaving or reducing their activity dreadfully. I'm hoping we don't lose any of you. Do let me know if I can help at any time. Dougweller (talk) 18:01, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
…and if you haven't, who's Ilse Breit? I've seen a print by her today, and it's strange! Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 22:01, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hafspajen, your absence has been noticed — Oh yes, it's been noticed.... (sca)
Hafspajen, I advise you to return to your post ... sooner, rather than later. (sca)

NGA

Did you know the National Gallery of art offers fairly large scans of much of their collection for free download? https://images.nga.gov/en/page/show_home_page.html

You have to register, but, having done so, it's really painless. Adam Cuerden (talk) 06:48, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Waiting for Hafs to arrive

For Klappy

One of my editors has pugs too. I have children. Also, email to you cannot be delivered for security reasons, apparently.

Calouste Gulbenkian

I'm posting this here because all of you are so knowledgeable about pictures and I thought you might be able to help. I just noticed that an editor added an image of Calouste Gulbenkian's signature to the infobox in the article, but when I looked at it I thought the background of the signature was a bit dark. I'm wondering whether the background could be lightened. CorinneSD (talk) 00:24, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A gift

A rainbow all painted impressionistic by Camille Pissarro. ...I will put my rainbow in the clouds to be a sign of my promise to the earth. Fylbecatulous talk 02:59, 12 August 2014 (UTC).[reply]

My present for you ...

Lady Agnew looked across at Hafspajen's empty chair then, looking directly and appraisingly at Hafspajen, asked when they were going to return? SagaciousPhil - Chat 08:43, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So sorry

I'm so sorry to see that you have gone Hafs! I couldn't bear it in here for a while myself, and come back to see that the bullying has driven you away. As was said above, your attempts to cheer people up are truly precious, adorable. I hope that wherever you are you are doing something peaceful and more rewarding that wikipediing. This video offers a few suggestions for how to relax, in case the hectic online way of life has somehow come to seem normal. Very best wishes to you, may you be truly free from the bullies! Painting

I did it. Portrait of Doña Isabel de Requesens y Enriquez de Cardona-Anglesola. Please come and help me with it!!! Yngvadottir (talk) 21:49, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice article! It has very positive feelings. Her arms remind me of the woman in Edward Hopper's Night Hawks- really too long. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 22:03, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'm so glad you liked it :-) However, someone disagrees and unless you come back to help me out with the material, Hafspajen, I'm going to have to redo all that research. Glub. (Yes, her arms are a bit long, but maybe she has a long back to match.) Yngvadottir (talk) 12:46, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's time ...

... time to overcome your reservations, Hafspajen. (sca)

So, are you back? Sca (talk) 15:02, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

move in harmony, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:42, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
??? Sca (talk) 13:51, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good to see you again, Hafspajen. But I share the hope that you do come back. Again, I'm sorry for my part in letting you down; and there are a lot of nice people here with more gumption than me. And a desperate need for people whose eyes and taste are better than mine :-) Yngvadottir (talk) 16:14, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I will only come back to participate in the same way as before - when everybody will realize that that editor Coat of Many Colours is the same editor that the completely uncivil bastard editor who was recently blocked (like two moth ago or so) from editing - Candle and Child of Midnight. And I am a targeted person - and you know that Candle DID targeted me and made quite a lot and enjoyed to make a lot of trouble on a particular issue - at Celibacy.

I can recognize the signs... Horse droppings are not figs — Do not be fooled by appearances. And Drmies, don't tell he knows about art, because he doesn't. One can change writing patterns by copying sentences - and one can read books of art - and this is the kind of comments someone would make who doesn't know much art but has a big mouth and have read two or three art books - about - Mary Cassatt, for example.

Now look what he is doing - vigourously - on Adam's van Gogh nomination, he realized it was me and Adam who were worked out that one. Now he won't let out of that one out of his hands to easily - he won't miss the chance of trouble it up...

No, I will not come back to participate in the same way as I did before, not like this. Only when this problem will be solved - as above or when he finally gets banned from editing WP:FP for his equally own merits for disruptive editing, harrasment and uncivility. He is not doing any good to that project, it is just a lot of disturbance and not one good point. At least if he would have SOMETHING intelligent to say - but it is just empty - air - plus a lot of words and lots of provocations - and a lot of trouble for everyone who tries to respond to it - because really there are no valid points and nothing intelligent to argue against. Why do people always think that they have to show this much good fait with competely uncivil people? Hafspajen (talk) 20:29, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The drama deepens. Sca (talk) 00:09, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hafspajen, I saw that you made some changes to the gallery on the tree house page. I don't know if it was intentional, but you also reverted text edits I made to the 'Support methods and technology' section. I was planning to change the text back, but let me know if there was a problem with the new text and we can work out a better version to use. (Beechhouse (talk) 21:42, 13 August 2014 (UTC))[reply]
