Membership report<br>
The parent Christianity WikiProject currently has 344 active members. We would like to welcome our newest members, User:Floating Boat, User:Dewey420, and User:Jpacobb. Thank you all for your interest in this effort. If any members, new or not, wish any assistance, they should feel free to leave a message at the Christianity noticeboard or with me or other individual editors to request it.

From the Editor<br>
Ichthus is one of the ways that the WikiProject Christianity’s Outreach department helps update our members. We have recently added some new sections to the newsletter. Please let us know if there are changes you would like to see in the format, or if there are any particular things you would like to see included. And if you have anything you would personally like to add, by all means let us know. The talk page of the current issue is probably the best place to post such comments.
With that, I wish you all happy reading!

P.S. Please [ click here] to add the new Christianity noticeboard to your watchlist to follow the latest discussions relevant to WikiProject Christianity and subprojects.

Contest of the month<br>
We currently have a remarkable lack of Wikipedia:Wikipedia-Books. Right now, :Category:Wikipedia books on Christianity contains only 12 books. We certainly could have at least one book on each major grouping within Christianity. One of the challenges for this month, then, is working to put together books on relevant topics. For this month, one contest is for editors to assemble the basic Wikipedia books for each of the main topics of the extant related projects. When finished, they should their creation of the books at the main Christianity noticeboard, and at the end of the month the project will award barnstars to those who have made a significant efforts in developing this underdeveloped content.

Also this month, we are going to have have a challenge to create and improve some of our more important missing or low-quality articles. Last month's challenge articles were Karl Beth and Nerses IV the Gracious. Both articles are currently candidates for the DYK section of the main page. This month's challenge articles are the Stub-class article James Hastings and the not yet started Rudolf Sohm, A barnstar will be awarded to any editor who can get these articles up to DYK quality level and ultimately selected for the DYK section of the main page.

Calendar<br>
Thie coming month (mid-September through mid-October) includes feasts dedicated to the honor of the Martyrs of Korea, Saint Matthew, Vincent de Paul, Michaelmas, Saint Jerome, Theresa of Lisieux, the Feast of the Guardian Angels, Francis of Assisi, Our Lady of the Rosary, and Teresa of Avila.

<div style="float:right; width:49%;">
Featured content and GA report<br>
Since the last report, Albertus Soegijapranata, and Reginald Heber were promoted to FA. Grade I listed churches in Greater Manchester was promoted to Featured List, and Jackie Hudson, Joyce Kilmer, Divine command theory, Bosa of York and Argument from morality were promoted to GA level. DYKs featured this past month include Church of Saint Benoit, Istanbul, All Saints Church, Hollingbourne, Neustädter Kirche, Hannover, St Mary's Church, Kirkby Lonsdale, Albert Ndongmo, If We Are the Body, List of places of worship in Tonbridge and Malling, Kulubnarti church, All Saints Church, Ulcombe, Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey, Igny Abbey, Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, Brăila, Places of Worship Registration Act 1855, Collegiate Church of San Gimignano, and St Matthew's Church, Burnley. Our profoundest thanks and congratulations to all those involved!

Wikimedia Foundation report<br>

As some of you may have seen, the Simple English Wikipedia has been experiencing some difficulties lately. This particular entity could be of great value to several individuals who are trying to learn English. As some of you who do speak foreign languages know, one of the most easily available, and, in general, useful learning aids for people is a text they know already, which allows them to focus on the specific words of the new language. Various recorded readings and translations of the Bible are among the best examples of this. Any efforts to try to enhance this vital means of informing a large segment of our readership is more than welcome. People interested in helping develop it are encouraged to leave a note regarding their specific articles of interest at the Christianity noticeboard. It would be wonderful if we could report some significant contributions to this sister site next month. And, of course, if we do have something to report, those involved would receive our greatest thanks.

Spotlight<br>

WikiProject Calvinism is one of our more important subprojects. It is specifically devoted to developing content relating to the Calvinist tradition, and the primary point for development of content relating to the Pilgrims, Presbyterians, Reformed churches, Congregational church, Reformed Baptists, and Low church. We definitely encourage everyone to do what they can to help this project develop the content relating to this extremely important Christian tradition.

I believe<br>
... that human nature is insufficient for salvation, and the grace of God is required to do so. I believe that God has preordained who will and will not achieve salvation. I believe that Jesus's atonement was sufficient for the purposes for which it was done. I believe that God's grace is of such power that it can overcome any person's resistance. I believe that those whom God has chosen for salvation will, by the undeniable power of God, persevere in God's grace. I am a Calvinist.

Thanks for uploading Image:Itheehyamaala.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 21:41, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Coorilosethirumeni.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

AfD nomination of Korooyo

An editor has nominated Korooyo, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Korooyo and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Jayden54Bot 15:39, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You had earlier indicated an interested in joining a project such as the one above. Please be advise that a project has now been started at the above page. We would welcome your participation. John Carter 18:28, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:ParumalaThirumeni.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ParumalaThirumeni.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Unspecified source for Image:Maineeast.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Maineeast.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self-no-disclaimers tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:57, 9 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 02:57, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:MorGeevarghese.jpg

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:MorGeevarghese.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license GFDL-self-no-disclaimers to license it under the GFDL, or to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use PD-self to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Android Mouse Bot 2 17:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

reply to Liju's letter

Dear Liju,

I received your message.I was under the impression that the head of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church 'H.B. Baselios Thomas I' didnot claim the title of Catholicos of The East and Malankara Metropolitan. He was ordained by the supreme head of the Antiochian Syriac Church 'H.H Zakka I Iwas' under the title 'Catholicos of India' .'You yourself have created a page in wikipedia named Catholicos of India (title). This itself proves that the title 'Catholicos of the East & Malankara Metropolitan' belongs to the Supreme head of the 'Indian(Malankara) Orthodox Church' and this is supported by the verdict of 'The Supreme Court Of India'.

It should be also noted that I have not added any kind of statements in my article which hurts or ridicules any group.I strongly believe that the article contains true facts widely accepted in the Christian community .Therefore I ask you not to redirect the page to 'viewpoint of both the churches'. If you disagree with any of my statements above please do clear it with me.

Hello Lijujacobk!

You are cordially invited to participate in WikiProject Christianity

The goal of WikiProject Christianity is to improve the quality and quantity of information about Christianity available on Wikipedia. WP:X as a group does not prefer any particular tradition or denominination of Christianity, but prefers that all Christian traditions are fairly and accurately represented.

You are receiving this invitation because you are a member of one of the related Christianity Projects and I thought that you might be interested in this project also - Tinucherian (talk) 12:12, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Parumala church

Hello, Lijujacobk. You have new messages at Tinucherian's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the Talkback or Tb template.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Niranam Diocese (Syriac Orthodox Church), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.niranamdiocese.org/index.php. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 10:41, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of Catholicos of the East

Let the churches offically split, then we can add your wish. Further, No time in history there were two catholicos of the East in the Oriental Orthodox Church. How can suddenly two catholicos ??. Accept the fact that both are parallels.

Even if u say both are seperated, that is not acceptable. Since both claims the same properties and civil suits continuing. Let there be an end. Then we all accept your claims. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexyalex (talkcontribs) 08:57, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 • Yes. I said the truth. Anyone can enquire of the reality. The above said people are discussing of churhces, but the article List of Catholicos of the East is of those individals who uses the title Catholicos of the East. Lijujacob is purposely trying to make it a church based article. It has nothing in connection with which denomination or fraction it belong. It is only connected with the persons who uses the title.Further, i like to point out that with a simple example. How can a Catholicos take the name of Baselios Paulose II with out a predecessor with name Baselious Paulose I . For ur kind information, the reality is that there exists two adminstrative parallael fractions in the Orthodox church of India. One call itself Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and other Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church. There were civil disputes for authoirty and power. The matter was heared in the Supreme Court of India and decided in vague in 1995 and is reported in AIR 1995 SC 2001. For clarification and execution of this judgement there are various cases existing in several courts in India today also. As per the Court order, Patrairch of Antioch is the supreme spiritual leader and the Catholicos cum Malankara Metropolitan is the authoritative and temporal leader of the whole of orthodox church in India. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexyalex (talkcontribs) 12:04, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
'Even if u say both are seperated, that is not acceptable'.

Its not me Alex, it is everyone except you that is saying that the church is divided. Wikipedia says the church is divided, Media Says it is divided, church heads say it is divided, politicians say it is divided.

As I said before the supreme head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, H.H. Marthoma Dydmos Ist has himself said that he is the supreme authority in the church and there is none except god above him. Please see this(http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8987266008315730306)

Even if the church is not divided, from wiki's point of view if a section(as you say) say they are seperate, then they are. ܠܝܓܘ Liju ലിജു לג"ו (talk) 13:39, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 • Do Jacobite fraction has a church or institution of thier own built before 2002. AS per the court order, even if there is a seperation it happened in 2002. Jacobite fraction if say is sepearate it wont in the ultimate get the proeprties. I dont want to c such a situation. I want both to work togegther and form a new constitution or sort for common good.

Further, ur saying that there of God above Catholicos. Catholicos cannot be judged by Patriarch it has a seperate individuality, but ofcause not equalant with Pentarchial Patriarchate of Antioch. Even if Didymos or anyone say they they are independent every one know the truth as well as what is there in the Constitution. Liju i can understand ur concern and feelings. I too have concerns. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexyalex (talkcontribs) 00:52, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It has been proposed that the Oriental Orthodoxy project be merged into the Eastern Orthodoxy project, which would probably be retitled Eastern Christianity after the merger. Please feel free to express an opinion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eastern Orthodoxy#Proposed mergers shortly. the proposal has been in place for about a month and a half, and gotten very little attention, so I am contacting directly all members of the Oriental Orthodoxy project about it. Deletion of history from Jacobite Syrian Christian Church

I noticed that you deleted all the history from Jacobite Syrian Christian Church by removing the template "Indian Christian History 52-1653" which contained a) a extremely brief summary of history, b) "the" chart showing the lineage of all churches formed as part of the St. Thomas Community, and c) a link to "History of the Saint Thomas Chrisitians" (also foreshortened to 1653). I didn't notice an edit summary. I was curious to understand your reasoning behind this deletion of history.Student7 (talk) 17:54, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have no axe to grind. I am totally neutral on the history not belonging to any of the churches. Why can you not 1) delete the offending item (less desirable) or 2) leave it with a qualifying remark - "Some researchers believe that... but the prevailing view is that...." That is more desirable IMO because it covers all bases. Particularly if there is a WP:FOOT someplace. I'd add it myself, but have already been accused of pro-Vedic, pro-Brahman beliefs, which is truly a laugh since I barely know what these terms mean! :)
I knew when I blended the history of five churches that there would be problems, but having five experts focusing on one history has to be superior to having five experts working on their own (pov) history. Student7 (talk) 11:03, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Other news
 • I am still working on the categorization matter. With any luck, we should have some results by the end of the month. There are also some discussions regarding project related activities at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum. One issue in particular that might be addressed is possible elections of new coordinators. Anyone interested in serving in such a capacity is more than welcome to indicate as much.

From the Members

Welcome to the Tenth issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It has been a long time since the last coordinators election. There is a lot for people to do, and I certainly would welcome seeing any individuals with an interest in such a position put themselves forward as candidates. I in particular would very much like to see some degree of "specialization" in the coordinators, so that, for instance, we might have someone knowledgable about some of the specific Christian faith traditions or other main subjects, like Orthodoxy, Lutheranism, Mormonism, the Jehovah's Witnesses, art, theology, and so on. If any parties who have experience with some of our faith- or- subject-based content would be interested in being candidates, I would love to see them do so. Please feel free to take part in the discussion regading what the minimum number of category items is, and how to deal with the non-qualifying categories, on the General Forum page.

WikiProject Christianity Newsletter - August 2009

Jacobite Syrian Christian Church

I just reset the article Jacobite Syrian Christian Church. While I found your changes to be readable, maybe even credible, they were mostly unfootnoted. Nor did you explain why you deleted the file drawing on how the churches separated in the area. You said that "one size does not fit all." I don't know what that means. It is history. I would hope that "one size would fit all" when historical dates are talked about.

Please fill out edit summaries for all entries so that editors will understand what you are doing and why. You just replaced the entire history of the church with your deletion of the template. This should require a detailed explanation on the talk page and perhaps an equally detailed discussion on the template you replaced to explain what is wrong with it. See Template:Indian Christian History 52-1653 and the common history it links to: History of the Saint Thomas Christians.

A minor matter, you left an outline to be filled out later. We don't do this to readers. They will not understand a mess. Okay to comment out the outline and fill it in later. Thanks. Student7 (talk) 14:25, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An afterthought: you seem to have some good ideas. If you can back them with WP:RELY citations and good WP:NPOV reasons about what is wrong with the old text, there's no reason that not only can this article be improved, but can serve as a solid basis to improve articles on other Christian churches in the area, as well. Some are really a mess, historically. Student7 (talk) 14:38, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. You have made some valid points. I would like to discuss them:
"The history always is written by victors." Somewhat true. But there are the following articles: Goa Inquisition and Coonan Cross Oath, neither of which is complimentary to the West!
"History is not objective but subjective." Sometimes, the closer the date, the worse it is. But while we can't get an objective article yet on Hugo Chavez, we are able to on Pope Alexander VI and the Crusades, I think. So time may help.
"If a Syro Malabar Catholic write Indian Syrian Church history it will have a Catholic perspective, if a Syriac Orthodox Christian write it, it will have a catholic perspective." I am a Latin Catholic residing in the US. I do not have a "slant." I am not trying to make the Orthodox "look bad" nor any other branch. I have no axe to grind other than to try to present history as objectively as possible and make all Christian churches put forth their best in an article. They cannot put forth their best when all histories disagree. They all look silly! If one reads like nonsense, it casts doubt on all the others, as well.
"So I am against a template of common history for all the Syrian Churches in India." Why is it to the advantage of one church to say something happened in the 8th century and another not to say that existed? I don't see the point of not sharing a common history.
It would be like the United States saying (in one state), that Pilgrims founded a colony, and another state saying that the French founded a colony and omitting that the Pilgrims did. While we have better documentation, there's no reason to discard, underemphasize, nor overemphasize, history. This is something that intelligent people should be able to collaborate on. There is a great deal more mutual sharing of belief between the editors of the Indian churches than there is among the editors of the Crusades or the pope!
"No Syrian Church in India agree on a thing in history other than the arrival of St. Thomas ;-D." One of the things I demur on since I'm not really that convinced myself. You put a smiley so I assume you agree that it might not be 100% provable.
"So what I was planning to do was to write a history myself adding references later." - Sorry. Can't discuss this proposal. You really should not do that. References must come with the text. Try developing it in your sandbox, if you find developing it online is too confining. On the other hand, please discuss broad changes first in the article's talk page.
"Also an accurate study on the history of the church in India is impossible because there are not enough evidences on the pre-colonial years. Most even destroyed or set to file during the inquisition by Aleixo de Menezes." Let's face it - it was hard to preserve written documents in a tropical climate. There are thousands of documents left to be found in the mid-East. Hardly any in India. Climate was mostly at fault. Menezes didn't help, I am sure.
"Even colonial writing are biased. Portuguese say that the Catholic church ruled over Indian Syrians, but Protestant Claudius buchanan says that they were ruled by Antiochian Patriarch." Here is material over which reasonable people can disagree and insert in the article - BOTH sides. Reason - there is no reason (WP:BIAS) for the Portuguese, IMO, to have stated that Indian Syrians rules Catholic Church, although that is a peculiar statement. Are you sure? Anyway, the distant rule of Antioch may be equally true and valid. Presumably we can present both. If they have critics, those can be presented as well.
So: no, there doesn't have to be one history on which everyone agrees. We can present both sides in a single article if they each have WP:RELY sources. This is what I tried to do when I combined various church histories in the History of the Saint Thomas Christians. A lot of stuff in there did not have proper WP:FOOTnotes and could be deleted or replaced or given citations, or re-written. Another editor has suggested replacing it, which is fine. But there should be more, valid citations than mine!
What do you think? Student7 (talk) 15:15, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the commentator on Talk:Mar_Thoma_Church#File:Nazrani_Evolution is a professor in India. He has had some remarks on bad editing/history himself. While he, too, is unenthused about trying to arrive at a common history, it doesn't take more than a few educated, objective people, like yourselves, who know their topic, to outweigh the newbies that try to make unreferenced changes that don't make sense. The future could look bright with just one or two more like you that can collaborate, even if you don't agree "perfectly" on all topics. Student7 (talk) 16:20, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for participating. The project will be greatly enriched by your presence, comments and interest! Student7 (talk) 14:29, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Out to lunch?

My recent comments on File talk:Nasrani Evolution.jpg was predicated on the mistaken observation by me that we were (finally) getting feedback from User:Rahuljohnson4u who never responds to anything. I couldn't believe our luck!

It was you, which was nice, but may explain my odd retorts! It was Rahuljohnson4u who created the drawing and who I would like to defend it, though I appreciate hearing from anybody knowlegeable, of course. Thanks! Student7 (talk) 20:14, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Lijujacobk! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 121 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. From the Editor

This month marks the observation of Pentecost, one of the most important feast of the Christian liturgical year. It is our hope here that all of you, regardless of your religious affiliation (if any), find that the holiday, and its accompanying activities, an enjoyable and beneficial experience. We also hope that this "Birthday of the Church" is one which gives you the same joy as the birthday of yourself or your loved ones.

Ichthus is the successor to the long running WikiProject Christianity newsletter, run under the WikiProject Christianity’s Outreach department. As such, you will continue to see information about our latest featured and good articles, DYKs, as well as new members who have joined our project. You might also see links to Christianity related news from the mainstream media!

With that, I wish you all happy reading!

Help Bring Wikipe-tan "into the fold"

As many of you may know, our unofficial mascot, dear Wikipe-tan, hasn't yet indicated any particular beliefs. However, yes, as we all know, ahem, some people might object to our beloved mascot running around in a French maid outfit. People do talk, you know. ;) If anyone might be able to develop an image of the dear lady in a image more, well, "Christian," I would like to see perhaps a vote for next month as to which, if any, image of the dear girl we might make our own unofficial mascot. Please post your images here.

Christianity in other wikis

As many of you might now, there are a large number of other Wikimedia Foundation projects, including WikiSource, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, WikiQuote, and others. I certainly believe that Wikibooks and Wikiquote might be among the more directly relevant sister projects. If any of you can think of any particular efforts in these other projects which you think would benefit from more input, please let us know here, so we can help spread the word around.

Spotlight on the Outreach department

Ichthus will spotlight a different subproject or workgroup of WikiProject Christianity. This edition will spotlight on our vital Outreach department. This comparatively small, but vital, project unit is dedicated to welcoming new editors to Wikipedia and the Christianity related content, and to providing information to the various project members, in forms like this newsletter.

The scope of articles with which this group deals is truly enormous, and, given the wide variety of material with which we deal, we would very much welcome the input of more individuals, particularly individuals who are particularly knowledgeable of the less well-known and less frequently monitored articles related to Christianity.

Speaking personally, I would be very, very gratified if we were to have this become a very, very large and active unit, with members from the broad spectrum of Christian beliefs, practices, and groups. The broader the spectrum and areas of expertise of members we have, the better we will be able to help manage the content. Please consider whether you believe you might be able to contribute in this vital area.

I believe

... in the statements contained in the Nicene Creed. I believe that the Bible is one of the two defining bases for belief. The other is the Sacred tradition, which provides us with means of interpreting the Scriptures, as well as some teachings which have been handed on by God outside of the scriptures. I believe that the Magisterium has been empowered to fill this interpretative function. I believe that clerical celibacy is a rule that should generally be followed. Church of the month

by User:Diliff
Frauenkirche (Church of Our Blessed Lady) in Munich, taken from the tower of St. Peter's Church

Contest of the month
We currently have a remarkable lack of Wikipedia:Wikipedia-Books. Right now, Category:Wikipedia books on Christianity contains only 12 books.

As biographies are often a bit easier, this month we are choosing two biographies: Karl Behm, which has yet to be started, and the currently Stub-class article Nerses IV the Gracious. A barnstar will be awarded to any editor who can get these articles up to DYK quality level and ultimately selected for the DYK section of the main page.

Calendar
Thie coming month (mid-August through mid-September) includes feasts dedicated to the honor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Bartholomew the Apostle, Nativity of Mary, and the Exaltation of the Cross.

Featured content and GA report
Since the last report, William de Chesney (sheriff), Knights of Columbus, and Angelus Silesius were promoted to GA level. Our thanks and congratulations to all those involved.

Wikinews is our sister site for developing news stories. Several events relating to Christianity, like the installation of bishops for instance, do not necessarily merit extensive coverage in wikipedia encyclopedic articles, but can and easily could be covered at greater length in a news article format. Given the number of significant news events that relate to religion, including claims of miracles, assignment of bishops and other religious leaders, church conferences, and other events, this site provides an excellent opportunity to provide in-depth coverage of current events at greater length than wikipedia.

One of our newer editors, User:David_FLXD, has recently gone through much of our content related to Methodism and assessed it. We are very grateful for his efforts, and that of all the editors who have had a role in developing that content. We have every reason to believe that this will make it significantly easier for the Methodism work group to create and develop content relevant to Methodism. To help that along, we certainly encourage everyone to do what they can to help David and the other Methodism editors to bring the content relevant to their tradition to the highest possible level of quality.

I believe
... that human nature is insufficient for salvation, and the grace of God is required to do so.
