Zoosk is a social networking and online dating website with third-party applications on several social networking services. Zoosk is based in San Francisco, CA[1].

Zoosk is a subscription-based dating service, but non-paying members can post a profile and browse other profiles for free. Non-paying members can also pay for some services with virtual currency.[2] Zoosk's website and applications monetize in 52 countries, with service localized in 20 languages, and a majority of users are based in the United States and Western Europe[3].

History

The company was started in December 2007 by Alex Mehr and Shayan Zadeh, initially as a third-party dating application on Facebook[4].

In late 2009, Zoosk accepted $30 million in Series D funding[5].

In 2010, Zoosk was featured in the song and music video for "Zoosk Girl" by hip hop artists Flo Rida and T-Pain [6].

Features

Zoosk users can access the service on Zoosk's main website or use its third-party application on their Facebook, Bebo, Hi5, Tagged, or Myspace social networking platforms.[7] Zoosk also offers a Mobile phone version[8], an iPhone application, and a downloadable instant messaging client called Zoosk Messenger[9].
