Summary

Description
English: The Grade II-listed "Carnegie Free Library" on the north side of Market Place. It was built in 1904 to an Edwardian 'Free Style' design by Hunter & Woodhouse of Belper. It is orange brick and ashlar with sandstone dressings and a centrally projecting round-arched doorway. Between the first floor windows there are a series of carved relief Art Nouveau panels. The former Ritz Cinema on South Street is visible in the distance.
