- 23:0123:01, 2 November 2024 diff hist +264 List of largest stars even rank 2 doesn't necessarily mean foreground. Also from the paper: :Given that all of these objects have observed minus expected radial velocities less than 20 km s−1, we do not believe that this crowding invalidates our classification of these stars as very probable M33 RSGs.". It's still a very probable M33 RSG Tag: Undo

I'm pretty sure it was calculated assuming it's an K-type giant. Kinematically and photometrically it is consistent with a Triangulum galaxy RSG. Tags: Undo Reverted

- 17:3317:33, 7 October 2024 diff hist +264 List of largest stars "rank 1" stars are stars that are selected as supergiants both photometrically and kinematically, which means that the authors find no reason to assume either of these is a foreground star. - 21:4721:47, 5 October 2024 diff hist −9,039 L-type supergiant The only example in the article is V838 Monocerotis, which only reached L-type during its luminous red nova. It is a M-type supergiant usually and some papers even consider it never even reached L-type during the LRN, only M11 (e,g.https://www.aanda.org/articles/aa/abs/2005/24/aa2800-05/aa2800-05.html). No normal supergiant has ever reached L-type, only luminous red novae, so I am redirecting this page to that page. current Tags: New redirect Visual edit: Switched

(1995). These differences may be due to different stellar parameters and/or an overestimate of the stellar radius because of the presence of molecular layers as discussed in Sect. 3."
