Mira Anwar Awad (born 1975) is an Arab-Israeli singer, actress,[1] and songwriter.[2] Mira was born in Rama village in Galilee, Israel to a Palestinian father (Anwar) and a Bulgarian mother (Snejanka). She currently lives in Tel Aviv, Israel [3][4]. She has found opposition from both sides of the Arab-Israeli conflict, with derogatory comments from both Palestinians and Israelis,[5][6] but continues to enjoy huge popularity from both publics.

On January 11, 2009, it was revealed that Mira Awad was to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, along with Israeli singer Achinoam Nini, better known by her professional name, Noa. Awad will be the first Arab-Israeli singer to ever represent Israel in the contest.[7]. Palestinian and Arab intellectuals have been circulating a petition to ask Mira Awad to reconsider her decision to accept representing Israel in the music competition. [8]
