The 83d Fighter-Day Group is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was last assigned to the 83d Fighter-Day Wing, stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. It was inactivated on 8 December 1957.
During World War II, the 83d Fighter Group served as a First Air Force P-47 Thunderbolt replacement training unit (RTU). In the Cold War, the 83d Fighter-Day Group was a Tactical Air Command unit initially equipped with F-86 Sabres, and later F-100 Super Sabres. The unit was inactivated in place on 8 December 1957, its personnel and equipment being assigned to the 4th Fighter-Day Wing, which was activated as a redesignation of the 83d Fighter-Day Wing that was also inactivated in place.
The 4th Fighter Wing with its operational squadrons have, under various designations, remained at Seymour Johnson AFB for over 50 years.
