"Summertime" is the first single taken from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's fourth studio album, Homebase. The song won a Grammy Award for best rap single in 1991. It spent a week at number #1 on the US R&B Chart,[1] as well as topping the tap singles chart, and reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became the duo's first single to enter the UK Singles Chart, peaking at #8.[2] The song samples "Summer Madness", a popular hit released by Kool & the Gang in 1986. From 1996 to 1998, CBBC used the background music of the song for links between programmes. It was also used in a series of commercials for supermarket chain Wal-mart (ASDA). The song was also used in the introduction of NBC's sitcom 1992 special Saved by the Bell. In 1998, Jazzy Jeff remixed the song, and it was released as one of the duo's last singles.
