Edit request to expand and update article

On behalf of Move, I am proposing expanded and updated Move (company) and Realtor.com articles as part of my work at Beutler Ink. Given my conflict of interest, I will not edit either article directly and ask independent editors to review them for accuracy, neutrality, and verifiability. During this project, Move has provided feedback to ensure accuracy. I've saved my Move draft here (and, if you're curious, my Realtor.com draft here).

I'll briefly identify some problems with the current Move article:

• Most importantly, quite a few of the sources are inappropriate for Wikipedia, such as press releases, company websites, and non-reliable publications
• Almost all of the content is presented in bulleted lists, which goes against Wikipedia's Manual of Style, and should be converted into prose.
• The current "Criticism and controversy" section is partly unsourced and its contents should probably be integrated with the company's history.
• I've also formatted the infobox and inline citations correctly, and worked hard to present a neutral company overview and history.

Overall, the draft seems like an improvement, aside from what I flagged, though I have to reviewed every single word of it and its sourcing. "Overview"

Since I'm struggling to find volunteers to review the draft in its entirety, I am splitting the request into multiple parts. • The source given for the information under reference #1 does not give a page number ("The company also operates Doorsteps.com (following its acquisition in 2013), MortgageMatch.com, Moving.com, Relocation.com, and SeniorHousingnet.com").
• "Among other properties" is too nebulous a claim statement to be adequately substantiated by the given sources.
• Under leadership, these people are already listed in the infobox. While that infobox is inordinately long, having the names listed there is preferable and more concise than listing them in the text. Thank you for reviewing this request. I've replaced the inline citation and removed "as of December 2016", in order to make the article move evergreen. Reference #1 does not include a single page number because the internet properties are mentioned on different page numbers. I assumed "among other properties" was preferred over listing every single internet property, but you're welcome to suggest an alternative phrase. Please keep in mind, some of the properties mentioned in the "Overview" are further detailed in the overall draft — this section is intended to serve as a snapshot of the company's portfolio. Additionally, "Overview" sections often include mention of key personnel, even when names are included in the infobox. Shouldn't the infobox include details confirmed by the article's prose? @Spintendo: Thanks for revisiting your comments about adding mention of key personnel in the overview and infobox, and sorry for any confusion about the page numbers. What I mean to say is there are many different page numbers for each. For example, FiveStreet on pages 6, 29, 61, and 77; ListHub is mentioned on pages 3, 6, 7, 27–28 30, 40, 43, and 55. Some of the similar words are technical terms (such as "settled" and "wholly-owned subsidiary", which is a specific type of subsidiary), or company names. 1. I have reviewed this section again. The reference provided and shown in your proposal under the number 1 claims page 6. The first sentence in the 'Overview' section states "Move was established in Delaware under the name InfoTouch Corporation in 1993." Nowhere on page 6 is that claim made.
2. It already states two times in the article that the company is based in Santa Clara. Three times is not necessary.
3. The other references you have provided are not acceptable per WP:RS.

 Done I have replaced, in whole, the text of the article with a draft text developed by the above COI editor. In doing so I considered the following:

• The draft text resolves a prose maintenance tag that is unresolved on the original article.
• The draft text maintains notable critical information on the company but seamlessly integrates it into the text instead of making it a standalone section which is more consistent with WP:NOCRIT which generally advises against standalone criticism / controversy sections.
• The draft text is significantly better sourced and more detailed.
• In the last five months there have been no substantial edits to the article that would indicate such a wholesale replacement would be disruptive.
• Some of the sources in the draft text are subject-specific RS. For example, inman.com, is certainly RS for news related specifically to the RE industry but would not be RS for news on astrophysics or baroque opera. While subject-specific RS may not always be as desirable as universal RS, as used in this article it provides functional information (e.g. names of executives) that is not subject to much in the way of interpretation, as opposed to analytical information.

I made the following changes in the implementation of the draft article:

• I removed the external links section which provides an official company link since an external link to the company website is already included in the infobox (per WP:ELMINOFFICIAL).

This all seems reasonable. I worked with IJ on smoothing out this and related articles, over a span of some time, and with an eye to WP:CCPOL and WP:COI concerns. There's probably always some room for tweaking, but these drafts have been ready for primetime for a while now. Hello again! I am back with an additional edit request, which I'm submitting on behalf of Move. In August, Move agreed to acquire Opcity, per this source, this source, this source, and others. I propose updating the article accordingly, and offer the following addition for community review:

Move acquired Opcity, the Austin, Texas-based real estate technology company, for $210 million in 2018. The company, which developed a platform that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to match potential home buyers with agents, will continue to operate as an independent business.

Proposed updates

Hello again! I am back to propose some updates to the current Wikipedia article on behalf of Move.

In order to illustrate the proposed changes and make implementation as easy as possible, I saved the markup of the current Wikipedia article here and made updates myself. This diff shows the specific markup edits, and below I've outlined the changes in more detail:

• There have been some C-suite personnel updates, so I've updated the infobox and Operations section appropriately.
• Some of the brands have been integrated or sold, so I've updated the infobox and History section appropriately.
  • More specifically, OpCity was integrated into Realtor.com, Avail was acquired, and Top Producer was sold.
• I've changed "News Corporation" to "News Corp" per News Corp.

I don't edit articles in the main space directly because of my conflict of interest, so I'm seeking assistance from volunteer editors to update the article appropriately. @Chetsford: Since you've assisted with requests in the past, I wonder if you'd be willing to take a look and copy over the updated article markup? I should note, in my draft space I've disabled the categories and logo image in the infobox for copyright purposes. Otherwise, I think the proposed changes are generally noncontroversial and should all be sourced appropriately. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Inkian Jason, thanks for the proposed update; I haven't gone through all of it (and I'm not sure whether I'll be able to handle the full request), but it seems uncontroversial for the most part – one thing I noticed while skimming the proposed change is that the infobox would list 8 key people, which seems excessive. The template documentation recommends listing up to four key individuals closely associated with the company, which strikes me as a good rule of thumb – could you cut down the list? On a minor related formatting note: It is recommended to use {{Unbulleted list}} instead of regular bullets to list people in infoboxes. Best, Blablubbs|talk 14:20, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

I propose adding mention of the UpNest acquisition to the bottom of the History section. Suggested text, based on Inman.com and MarketWatch:

• Move acquired UpNest in June 2022. UpNest connects home sellers and buyers with local agents competing for business. Users who submit leads through the marketplace receive proposals from three to five agents within twelve hours.

Revert request

Hello! On behalf of Move, I'd like to request a revert of this edit by an unregistered user in December 2022. While Morley is no longer employed by Move / Realtor.com, there are no sources saying she was fired, so the text "who was subsequently fired a few months later" should be removed. Alternatively, editors may prefer to remove mention of her altogether, since she no longer holds the position. I will let editors decide how to address this unsourced text, and please let me know if you have any questions.

 Done Remember that WP:BLP violations, especially those that might paint the subject (in this case Morley) in a negative light, can and should be removed immediately and without prior debate. I understand that this conflicts with WP:COI, so WP:COMMONSENSE applies. If you see this kind of unambiguous BLP violation, feel free to remove it. Hello! On behalf of Move, and as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I'd like to submit a request to update the company's article. Currently, the infobox lists David Doctorow as the CEO, and the Operations section says, "David Doctorow was named CEO in January 2020." In the infobox, please change "David Doctorow" to "Damian Eales".

The sentence "David Doctorow was named CEO in January 2020" is correct, so I will let editors decide if keeping mention of a former CEO is helpful to readers. Otherwise, I suggest updating the article with text along the lines of, "Damian Eales became the CEO of Move in 2023."
