Skyroom is an urban development company based in London. It was founded in 2018 by the founder of bio-bean, a cleantech company that derives energy from used coffee grounds[1].
The company is notable for providing a solution for alleviating the pressure on London's housing market and tenants. It proposes a model where 'beautifully-designed, factory-made, high-quality, eco-friendly homes and rooftop gardens [are installed] on London's rooftops'.[2]
The company has published research on the potential for building on London's rooftops with The Institute for Global Prosperity , a department of The Bartlett, University College London's Faculty of the Built Environment[3]. The founder, Arthur Kay, is Visiting Lecturer at The Institute for Sustainable Resources, University College London, and The Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College, and Entrepreneur-In-Residence at the Institute for Global Prosperity[4]. The research draws on popular urban theories such as Super-linear scaling, and the Compact City model.
The company is based in the Royal Academy of Engineering[5]. It is a signatory of the UN Global Compact.
