Hello!

[edit]

Thanks for the helpful welcome message you left on my talk page! I have this one confusion - what is one supposed to do if a proofread work contains errors? I found a book on the works that validation that wasn't correctly proofread and I didn't really know how to proceed. Also, where could I learn the markup for editing and formatting the text? There are a lot of Indian law and historic text related pages that I would like to contribute to, but I'm a bit lost at the moment. Thanks! If I knew which text, I would be better able to answer the question. Because the answer to your question depends on several factors. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:15, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

OK, so what errors do you see? If there is a mismatch in spelling or punctuation between the scan image and the text, then the text should be corrected to match the scan. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:06, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

How do you recommend multilingual parallel texts be proofread/transcluded?

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering what your opinion on this would be as there is a placeholder page for this but no guidelines (Wikisource:Multilingual texts). This is the first page of the text in question; https://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Page:The_creeds_of_Christendom_-_with_a_history_and_critical_notes_(IA_creedschristendo03scha).pdf/372&action=edit&redlink=1. Thanks Violoncello10104 (talk) 02:28, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Parallel texts are trickier, but can be done using sections. See for example Index:Ten Tragedies of Seneca (1902).djvu, where I transcribed Medea, which is a parallel Latin and English text. By putting the Latin into sections labelled "Latin" and English into sections labelled "English", it's possible to host just the English here, and for someone at the Latin Wikisource to do the reverse. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:37, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I've done so for a shorter text (the Lambeth Articles) and will work on that for the Gallican Confession. I appreciate your help! Violoncello10104 (talk) 05:51, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

misleading edit summaries

[edit]

Please do not leave misleading edit summaries, as in the case of <https://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Template:No_source/doc&diff=next&oldid=14498866>.

This is not an undo of the referenced edit. C. A. Russell (talk) 18:48, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Orlando: A Biography image

[edit]

When I add images I usually provide the source in the file change: in this case, from HathiTrust dul1.ark:/13960/t4fn6fv29. TE(æ)A,ea. (talk) 18:26, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I'd only been able to find low res versions on the internet and versions cropped smaller, though I did find a partial scan of the original portrait in color. This link will help. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:35, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see now that you added the information to the File History there, though the information does not appear in an edit summary. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:36, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • When I upload a new file (which I can only do through Special:Upload), the edit summary is totally canned; nothing I can do will change what is says. In the specific Special:Upload form for new versions of files, there is a single-line field for changes; that shows up where you have since found it. This is the best that can be done, unfortunately. If it’s from a scan I’ve received or made, the change log will read “… added from scan [from wherever]” instead of giving Web-site name and ID. TE(æ)A,ea. (talk) 18:48, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Good to know. I seldom re-upload images, so I was unaware of the mechanics. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:50, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes.

[edit]

Hi, can you take a look at your Usrboxes, according to the linter you seem to have an unpaired <center> tag? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:39, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've tried switching everything to templates from tags. If there is still a problem, I'd say go ahead at correct it. --EncycloPetey (talk) 16:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Lint Detection - Index_talk:Icebound.pdf

[edit]

Relatively simple- There's an unpaired italic in a comment you made. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 11:15, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Delinting request

[edit]

Hello! I've been taking care of addressing the Misnested tags and Tidy Font Lint errors here on Wikisource the past few weeks, and have gotten these two sets down to all but a few pages, which are full protected. Are the pages here: (Misnested, Tidy Font) some that you'd be willing to lower the protection for a day or two, or is there a place to make this sort of request? Or does Wikisource offer temporary adminship as Wikivoyage does (pending an Admin nomination review) to allow reliable editors room access and bigger mop?

I've been delinting on Wikipedia for the past 2 years where I've eradicated, or helped eradicate multiple error types (Including Tidy font (with admin assistance), Fostered table content, invalid image options (alongside Jonesey95)). I also cleared 99.99% of Wikivoyage's ~30k Lint issues over a two month span (Aug-Sept 2024) and at the moment have temporary adminship there (Sept-Dec 2024). I'm not looking to clear every error here, as Wikivoyage was a special case, but I would like to finish off some of the specific types of errors here if I can.

Happy to chat, happy to answer any questions. Thanks, Zinnober9 (talk) 15:06, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
