Part of an ancient /it/ root meaning "two", which was already largely extinct by fifteenth-century Middle Korean; cf. 이틀 (iteul, two days), 이듬 (ideum, two years of age), 이듭 (ideup, second plowing of the fields), 이태 (itae, two agricultural years).
