Cognate with Tatar бавыр (bawır), Kazakh бауыр (bauyr), Nogai бавыр (bavır), Kyrgyz боор (boor), Southern Altai буур (buur), Khakas паар (paar), Tuvan баар (baar), Yakut быар (bıar); Uzbek bag'ir, Turkish bağır, Turkmen bagyr (liver).
