Preposition

[edit]

з (z) (+ genitive)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • In the Taraškievica orthography, з (z) is written as зь () when the following word starts with a palatalized or soft consonant, for example зь Е́мэну (zʹ Jémenu, from Yemen) compared to з Е́мена (z Jémjena) in the standard orthography. This carries over to Łacinka as well, where зь Е́мэна (zʹ Jémena) would be written as ź Jemena rather than z Jemena.
  • са (sa) is used before certain awkward consonant clusters, for example са мной (sa mnoj, with me) rather than *з мной (*z mnoj), са сне́гам (sa snjéham, with the snow) rather than *з(ь) сне́гам (*z(ʹ) snjéham), or са Льво́ва (sa Lʹvóva, from Lviv) rather than *з(ь) Льво́ва (*z(ʹ) Lʹvóva). This parallels the Russian usage of со (so), and the Ukrainian usages of зо (zo) and зі (zi).
