Etymology

Borrowed from Persian لنگر (langar, “anchor”).

لنگر • (lenger)

1. (nautical) anchor, a tool used to moor a vessel to the bottom of the sea

   Synonym: دمیر (demir)

2. hospice where poor and indigent people are fed for free every day
3. kind of large and deep dish with a border four or five inches high or wide
