From Aramaic יַרְחָא (yarḥā), from Proto-Semitic *warḫ-; compare Hebrew יָרֵחַ (yaréakh, moon), Akkadian 𒌚 (warḫum, month) and Arabic تَارِيخ (tārīḵ, date, history).
