Etymology
[edit]A foreign Wanderwort, likely borrowed from a western substrate. The same Wanderwort may be reflected in Hebrew קוֹף (qōf), Akkadian uqūpu, Egyptian gfj, Middle Persian [script needed] (kpyk' /kabīg/), Ancient Greek κῆπος (kêpos, “long-tailed monkey”), and Proto-Germanic *apô (“ape, monkey”).
