[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian فردوس (firdaws), from Arabic فِرْدَوْس (firdaws), back-formed as the singular for فَرَادِيس (farādīs), from Ancient Greek παράδεισος (parádeisos), from Old Iranian *paridayza, from Proto-Iranian *paridayjah (“garden”, literally “walled area”), from *pari- (“around”) + *dayjah (“wall”); thus, it is an etymological match of পরিদেহ (porideho, “body”). Cognate with Hindustani فردوس / फ़िरदौस (firdaus), English paradise.
