From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *b/g-raŋ (chest). Related to (OC *qɯŋ, *qɯŋs, “to face, respond”); outside of Sinitic, compare Tibetan བྲང (brang, chest, breast), Burmese ရင် (rang, idem) (STEDT).
