[edit]From Sardinian chiza, from Classical Latin cilia, plural of cilium (“eyelid; (Medieval Latin) eyelash”), from Proto-Italic *keljom, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱel-yo-m, derived from the root *ḱel- (“to cover”).
