[edit]Likely borrowed from French euthanasie. The spelling with -ie has been attested since the 1840s. Before then the Latinate spelling euthanasia was used, which was borrowed from Ancient Greek εὐθανασίᾱ (euthanasíā) in the seventeenth century.
