[edit]Inherited from Old Spanish huésped, from Latin hospitem, from Proto-Italic *hostipotis, an old compound of hostis and the root of potis, possibly corresponding to a Proto-Indo-European root *gʰóstipotis, a compound of *gʰóstis and *pótis. Doublet of host. See also hueste.
