[edit]Etymology 2
[edit]Sino-Vietnamese word from 進; this is the Southern form. Doublet of tiến, the Northern form.
In current written Vietnamese, only three compounds with this form are in common use: tấn tới (“progressive, advancing”), tấn công (“to attack”) and tấn phong (“to promote to a higher position”); other compounds, although abundantly attested in many texts are now replaced by the Northern form tiến in the speech of most Southerners.
