Handbags

The handbag was popularised with the advent of the industrial revolution. Women's clothing of the time had no pockets (for carrying coins). Coin purses were the traditional solution. As longer distance travel became more commonplace, solutions were needed. Pockets were favoured in men's trousers but instead the handbag became the more favoured solution for women. Nowadays, the handbag is a combination of both practicality, (as they are intended for carrying everyday essentials), and style.
