Character 1: Emma

In Jane Austen’s “Emma”, Emma Woodhouse was described as being handsome, clever, and rich. Each of theses pictures highlight a different aspect of her personality and desires. The pictures of the large homes and lavish lifestyles showcase her wealth and the quality of her life on the Hartfield Estate. She knows she possesses power, and she is reluctant to give that power up through marriage. She takes on the role of a matchmaker, and meddles in Harriet’s life by making her a personal project. This possesses parallels to the series “Gossip Girl” in the way that the protagonist takes a lower class girl under her wing as her project. Emma is okay with being alone because she thought that it would be the only way for her to maintain her power and influence over Hartfield as well as the people in it. Emma’s cleverness and independence are showcased through the pictures with the quotes.
