The hidden beauty of Messier 106
Featured in this new image from the @nasa/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope is Messier 106, also known as NGC 4258. This is a nearby spiral galaxy that resides roughly 23 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici, practically a neighbour by cosmic standards. Messier 106 is one of the brightest and nearest spiral galaxies to our own and two supernovae have been observed in this galaxy in 1981 and 2014.
An island universe
Discover the stunning NGC 3430, a spiral galaxy 100 million light-years away in Leo Minor. Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, this image showcases the galaxy's detailed arms and star-forming regions influenced by nearby galaxies. Once described as an "island universe" by Edwin Hubble, NGC 3430 highlights the evolution of our understanding of galaxies.
Unveiling a Rare Black Hole in Omega Centauri
Astronomers have found compelling evidence for a rare intermediate-mass black hole in Omega Centauri, the largest and brightest globular cluster in the sky! Using over 500 Hubble images, the team discovered seven fast-moving stars being influenced by a massive object. This discovery adds a fascinating piece to the puzzle of black hole evolution and the mysteries of our universe!
Hubble captures a beautiful cosmic jewel in the queen’s hair
Explore the stunning spiral galaxy NGC 4689, located 54 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. Named after Queen Berenice II of Egypt, this galaxy shines like a jewel in the queen's hair! Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, this image reveals intricate details of the galaxy’s structure and star formation, highlighting the collaboration between Hubble and the Webb telescope. Dive into the cosmos and marvel at this celestial masterpiece.

Starshine in Canis Major
Massive multiple star system Tau Canis Majoris is the brightest member of open cluster NGC 2362 aka the Tau Canis Majoris Cluster, about 5,000 light years away in the constellation of Canis Major (The Great Dog). The cluster is also home to many young stars that are 4-5 million years old. Tau Canis Majoris, one of the most massive and short-lived types of star, will burn through its nuclear fuel long before its smaller companions, which will keep on shining for billions of years.
