Our friend @gingerfootgarden experimented with growing tomatoes in containers and raised beds. We're thrilled to hear her tomatoes are thriving now that they have more room to grow in her Vego Garden raised bed! What's your biggest takeaway from this year's gardening season? 🧅 It’s important to keep soil moist so their shallow roots can drink up. Water whenever the top inch of soil becomes dry.

Times to grow Onion 🧅 Onions are planted early in the spring and harvested from summer through the fall. 🧅 Onion are heavy feeders and require constant nourishment to produce big bulbs. Onion love nitrogen fertilizer. I use fish fertilizer. 🧅 Separate the seedlings carefully and keep it moist. 🧅 Plant it about an Inch deep, and about 5-6” apart.

Pro-Tip: Watering Hose

If you want to extend the life of your hose, relieve the pressure before walking away. This is especially true in the Texas summer, the heat and pressure will weaken the hose and it WILL eventually burst! From the Vego Garden at @texasecofarms

Retractable Hose Reel

This retractable hose reel from @vego_garden is a game changer! I decided to attach it to an existing post that just so happened to be in the perfect spot for it. It’s a round post, so to ensure a solid connection I made that mounting board from a 2x4 and pre drilled all the holes. I attached the board with heavy lag screws. You can also attach it to a 4x4 post or purchase their metal post for installation on concrete. We’re very happy gardeners! From the Vego Garden at @texasecofarms

Blossom End Rot

🍅 Blossom End Rot is caused by a calcium deficiency. 🍅 Another reason is inconsistency Water, happen a lot in my containers Tomatoes. . SOLUTION: I use Calcium based Fertilizer that made for tomatoes, you can also use Bone meal, eggshell , Or calcium supplement.

This contains: Ingredients:
- 3 eggplants, grilled and shredded
- 10 cherry tomatoes, quartered
- 1 jalapeno pepper (or any pepper of your choice), sliced
- 1/4 of a red onion, chopped
- 3 calamansi (or the juice of 1/2 a lemon)
- Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make the Salad:
1. Grill the eggplants until the flesh is soft and easy to separate with a fork. Remove the skin.
2. Combine all the ingredients. Mix and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
3. Serve as a side dish and enjoy!

Eggplant is a prolific plant to grow if it’s in the right location and conditions. Here’s how our friend @gingerfootgarden grows her eggplant: 🍆 Sow in early February and transplant after the threat of frost is over. 🍆 Plant in a sunny location (6-8 hours of sunlight) with well-draining soil. Another helpful tip is to plant eggplants near a worm composter. The fertile soil and worm castings can minimize flea beetles, the small black insects that chew holes in the leaves.
