This atypical and totally ephemeral hotel, year after year is reborn from the snow and
becomes a winter wonderland. Hôtel de Glace is already an icon of Quebec and all of
Canada.
Without a doubt, nowhere in the world will you have such an experience.
Every December temperatures plummet, directly below zero, in Quebec. For 6 weeks,
around 50 people sculpt using ice and 30 thousand tons of snow to erect this marvelous,
unique structure.
As you can imagine, it is not a simple igloo, as it includes all kinds of amenities and
comforts for its guests, such as chapels, fireplaces, divine rooms, slides, bar and much
more.
Something that we might not expect is a Jacuzzi and sauna area, but it does! The funniest
thing about the hotel is that every year they completely remodel and change the
decoration, always starting from scratch, to present different themes each year. In the
case of this, it will have a circus aesthetic to the delight of all.
The history of the Hôtel Glace is not recent. Jacques Desbois, its creator, began his
research in 1996 on a trip to Sweden to see how ice hotels were made there. The Desbois
design is the only one of its kind on the entire continent. For two years it has had an
alliance with the Hôtel Valcartier to erect its structure on its property.
The Hôtel de Glace Québec-Canada comprises numerous themed rooms and suites. I
know it may seem a bit strange to want to sleep on a block of ice, but in the rooms the
cold is the last thing you have to worry about! Their beds are provided with deerskin and
sleeping bags, so it is easy to keep the body hot, the cold you will only notice on the nose!
If you don't believe me, try relaxing in one of their suites, outdoor hot tubs, or even in
their saunas. Its design will not leave you indifferent, with its around 11 thousand tons of
snow and 350 of ice, it offers some of the most innovative facilities, making this work of
art a perfect place to stay, two exhibition halls, a majestic lobby, a cinema, a chapel, a
large reception hall, log cabins, a hot tub and the famous Absolut ice bar.
With a total area of nearly 3,000 m2 (27,000 ft2), the Hôtel de Glace is one of the most
ambitious projects ever to be completed in North America. In total, 11,000 tons of snow
and 350 tons of ice are needed for its construction, which takes 5 weeks.
If you want to live a unique experience that will last forever, in contrast to the ice, Hôtel
de Glace already makes reservations and you can make yours here. It is very exclusive and
in demand, so it is recommended to book well in advance.
