TV The View star Ana Navarro blasts Donald Trump on DNC stage over his association with 'people who shoot' dogs Navarro and her "View" cohosts regularly roasted Trump supporter Kristi Noem for writing about shooting her family dog in her recent book. EW's editorial guidelines Published on August 21, 2024 10:27AM EDT The View star Ana Navarro can hone in on a political mess when she sees one, but this time she's letting her dog, canine icon ChaCha Cárdenas, sniff out Donald Trump's shortcomings in the 2024 presidential race. As host of night two of the Democratic National Convention, Navarro — a Republican who holds a weekly post on ABC's View talk show — took the stage Tuesday night at Chicago's United Center, and wasted no time leading the group in a collective snarl against Trump and his supporters. "Kamala Harris? She likes dogs, and my dog ChaCha likes her," Navarro told the enthusiastic crowd, while a photo of Vice President Kamala Harris — who received delegates at the convention Tuesday evening, en route to scoring the Democratic nomination — holding ChaCha appeared on a giant screen behind her. Attendees applauded Navarro's sentiment, which was a clear reference to both Trump's previously expressed disinterest in having a pet dog and Trump-supporting South Dakota politician Kristi Noem's controversial revelation from her 2024 memoir that included a widely derided admission that she once shot her family's dog. Elsewhere during her DNC hosting gig, Navarro compared Trump to the communist regime in Nicaragua that she previously fled as a child. "Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist. I know communism. I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old. I don’t take it lightly. And let me tell you what communist dictators do. And it’s never just for one day. They attack the free press," Navarro wrote in a follow-up message on Instagram, summarizing her words on stage at the DNC. "Do any of those things sound familiar? Is there anybody running for president who reminds you of that?" Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Trump and Noem for comment. Meghan McCain slams whatever 'a--hole' put Joe Biden on DNC stage late at night: 'Disrespectful' Navarro wasn't the only major celebrity who appeared Tuesday night at the DNC; rapper Lil Jon surprised the crowd with a show-stopping performance of his hit "Turn Down for What," on behalf of his home state of Georgia during the roll call segment. Earlier this week, Navarro got emotional while reflecting on the significance of hosting the DNC at this point in her life. "I'm beyond myself to have this role today," Navarro said Tuesday morning on CNN, pausing to collect her thoughts as she fought back tears. "Because I'm a little refugee girl who fled communism in Nicaragua. I just wish my mom was here to see it." Watch Navarro speak at the DNC above.
