Almost 50 years after her last film, rumors have been swirling that Doris Day could be returning to the big screen — in a Clint Eastwood movie no less. But those rumors have been officially shot down, with Day’s representatives saying they’re “not true.”

“While Doris always appreciates hearing from her fans, the rumors about her returning to the big screen are not true,” Day’s rep, Charley Walters, told PEOPLE. “She adores her longtime friend Clint Eastwood, but Doris’ recent and current focus remains on her Doris Day Animal Foundation, who continue to help animals and the people who love them.”

A few weeks ago, an article in a German tabloid suggested that Eastwood had given Day a script and that she was planning to revive her movie career. The two longtime friends both live in Carmel, Calif.

Day last appeared on the big screen in With Six You Get Eggroll in 1968, and her TV series, The Doris Day Show, ended in 1973. In 2011, she released a new album, My Heart. Since retiring, she has worked with the animal welfare group she founded in 1978.
