The Hateful Eight: See Ennio Morricone conduct the score

As the composer for such films as The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly; Cinema Paradiso; The Untouchables; and now The Hateful Eight, Ennio Morricone is more often heard than seen.

But there is nothing quite like observing a maestro in action, and EW can exclusively debut a video of the six-time Oscar nominee conducting “Neve,” a key piece of music for Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight, at Abbey Road Studios in London last December.

The Italian composer is joined in the video by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, with whom he originally recorded the Hateful Eight score in Prague last summer. The film marks Morricone’s first Western in more than 30 years, and the first original score for a Tarantino project.

Speaking to EW last month about working with Tarantino, Morricone said, “He trusted me so much. He left me completely free to compose my music. … Some directors [in the past] wanted me just to do once again what they have already [heard before], and I had to really force them to accept my idea, because I wanted to do something that belonged to me, something that was coming from myself.”
