EW's editorial guidelines Published on February 21, 2019 09:00AM EST Welcome to the “18+50” division of competitive cheerleading. Diane Keaton and Jacki Weaver form their own senior citizen squad in the first Poms trailer. But they’re not the only familiar faces getting ready to Bring It On. Pam Grier and Rhea Perlman also join the crew, along with Celia Weston, Phyllis Somerville, Charli Tahan, Alisha Boe, and Bruce McGill. Poms stars Keaton as Martha, a woman who moves to a retirement community. She’s not looking to have “the time of your life for the rest of your life,” as the slogan states. She’s “just here to die.” (Later on in the trailer, you realize she’s not kidding.) But, with help from Sheryl (Weaver), she rekindles her passion for cheerleading and starts her own squad with fellow residents Olive (Grier) and Alice (Perlman). They even enter a competition with help from a more experienced cheerleader. It doesn’t matter what others think, Martha says. “The only thing that really matters is what we think of ourselves.” Poms is a story from director Zara Hayes (documentarian behind 2013’s The Battle of the Sexes) and screenwriter Shane Atkinson (DreamWorks Animation’s All Hail King Julien). Keaton also executive produces the film with Nick Meyer, Marc Schaberg, and Will Greenfield. Poms is scheduled for release this May 10.
