A zine mod is a volunteer who helps to organize a zine. It is a newer term in zine fandom, used in the context of art-heavy zines organized via social media (Twitter, Tumblr, Discord, etc.). If a zine-mod project includes print zines, the physical zine is often glossy and perfect-bound, with optional bundled fan merch.
The role of zine mod is a cross between a zine publisher/zine editor and a community moderator; an online zine will frequently have a team of zine mods, each assigned to a particular area of responsibility such as shipping, finance, or layout.
Zine mods often apply to join a zine project after it has already started; one person or a few fandom friends may have an idea for a zine concept, advertise the upcoming zine, and only then ask for mod applications to fill in all needed roles.
