Dr. Sahadudheen I is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, Kerala. He joined the institution on February 25, 2016, after serving as an Assistant Professor at Calicut University Centre, Kadmat, Union Territory of Lakshadweep from 2012 to 2016. Dr. Sahadudheen holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the School of Management Studies at Cochin University of Science and Technology. His academic background also includes an M.Phil. in Economics (2012) and an M.A. in Applied Economics (2011), both from Pondicherry Central University.

Dr. Sahadudheen’s research interests span a wide range of topics, including open economy macroeconomics, energy economics and finance, commodity markets and derivatives, economics of aging, and human development. He is particularly interested in exploring the dynamics between various economic factors, such as oil, gold, exchange rates, and stock markets, with a focus on time-varying relationships and volatility spillovers. His publications cover several high-impact journals, including articles on the determinants of inflation, the relationship between money demand and exchange rates in India, and the role of human development in Lakshadweep. His work has been presented at numerous national and international conferences, where he has shared insights on topics like the dynamics of oil, gold, and stock prices, as well as the economics of tourism and human development in Lakshadweep.

In terms of teaching, Dr. Sahadudheen specializes in econometrics, statistical methods, macroeconomics, and research methodology. He actively incorporates computer applications in economics and has a strong proficiency in various econometric software, including EViews, STATA, Oxmetrics, Microfit, and R. He has also served as a resource person at several national workshops and seminars, where he has imparted knowledge on time series analysis, econometric methods, and data analysis. Dr. Sahadudheen's contributions to the academic community extend beyond his publications and teaching, as he continues to engage in career development activities, including participation in orientation programs, refresher courses, and workshops aimed at improving teaching excellence.

This paper examines the effect of impulsiveness of euro on Indian stockmarket using daily data fr... more This paper examines the effect of impulsiveness of euro on Indian stockmarket using daily data from 3-Apr-2007 to 30-Mar-2012. Adopting a generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) and exponential GARCH (EGARCH) model, the study suggests a negative relationship between exchange rate and stock prices in India. Even though India is a major trade partner of European Union, the study couldn’t find any significant statistical effect of fluctuations in Euro-rupee exchange rates on stock prices. The study also reveals that shocks to exchange rate have symmetric effect on stock prices and exchange rate fluctuations have permanent effects on stock price volatility in India.

Lakshadweep is a group of islands in the Arabian Sea with an area of just 32 Km2 and a total popu... more Lakshadweep is a group of islands in the Arabian Sea with an area of just 32 Km2 and a total population of 64429. The economy of Lakshadweep is relatively underdeveloped and in a stage of infancy now, it mainly depends for its revenue on the coconut, coir industry, fishing and tourism sector. It is heavily depends on the Grant in Aid from the centre for all its development activities. In Lakshadweep, the domestic production of various agricultural products has a lot of constraints due to its peculiar land features and a small region cannot support various industries. Productivity of the sea around the island is very high and due to this Lakshadweep's fish availability per capita makes it stand 1st in the whole of India. Lakshadweep has an immense scope for tourism because of its isolation and scenic beauty and it is emerging as a great tourist attraction of revenue. The demography of Lakshadweep exhibits certain features that are highly significant put often unique as well.

AN ECONOMETRIC APPROACH TO THE GROWTH PATTERN OF INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT, LABOUR AND CAPITAL IN THE STATE OF KERALA- A PRE AND POST REFORM COMPARISON

The study analyses the growth pattern of industrial development in the state of Kerala during the... more The study analyses the growth pattern of industrial development in the state of Kerala during the period from 1973-74 to 2008-09 by adopting simple statistical techniques and econometric tool of ordinary Least squares and Granger causality. A comparison of state-wise industrial performance shows that, the states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka are in a better position in all the indices such as number of factories, amount of capital, number of workers and total volume of industrial output. While, the position of Kerala in all the indices compared to the other states is very dismal. The percentage share of Kerala in number of factory, workers and industrial output are very low. The share in total number of factories is only 3.814%, regarding the number of workers; its share is 3.764% and Kerala generating only 2% of total industrial output in India. The study also compares the growth pattern of industrial development in two periods, viz post and pre reform period, which reveals that the economic reforms in India has a positive impact on the industrial development in Kerala. The results from OLS indicates that, in Kerala, one percent increase in the amount of capital will leads to a 1.22% growth in gross industrial output, while one percent increase in the amount of labour will only leads to an increase in industrial output by 0.632%. This suggests that, in order to increase the industrial output in Kerala the Government has to invest more in capital and it also indicates the need of foreign investments in the states. The result from Causality test suggests that, in Kerala both gross state domestic product and gross industrial product are bidirectional.

Since the evolution of the human development index in 1990 there has been a vivacious debate on m... more Since the evolution of the human development index in 1990 there has been a vivacious debate on measurement related issues of quality of human life among the nations. It is a long-established verity that the existing HDI presents averages and thus conceals wide discrepancy and disproportion in distribution of human development in overall population and does not take into account the distribution of human development within a population subgroup. This study is intended to look in to human development scenario at household level in Lakshadweep and found that the human development scenario in Lakshadweep is not very dismal and not so stupendous and outstanding in Lakshadweep, it is more or less moderate. No household has achieved highest development in human development index and none of household lags behind in Household Human Development Index. The study bring to a close that 45% of household has achieved high level of human development, 57.5 % attained moderate level of human development and remaining 2.5 % account for low level of human development. The study also found that the gap between two extreme households in respect of human development and three dimensional indices is comparably low and inter household variation in the level of human development in Lakshadweep is very low.

There has been widespread concern in recent years over the oil price, much of the concern stem fr... more There has been widespread concern in recent years over the oil price, much of the concern stem from the adverse effects of oil price hike on major macro-financial variables such as output, inflation, exchange rate, stock price so on and so forth. The study aims to explore the dynamics among oil price, gold price, exchange rate and stock price. The results from J.J cointegration found that, there is a long run equilibrium relationship between oil price, gold price, exchange rate and nifty and the analysis from VECM shows that any disequilibrium created in the short run will be temporary and will get corrected over a period of time. The result from GIRF indicated a positive relation of oil and gold and a negative relation of oil and exchange rate. The analysis of generalized variance decomposition tends to suggest that each of the variables used in the empirical analysis can be explained by the disturbances in the other variables and most of the variations in each of the four variables are due to own innovations.

This study estimated the demand for money in India and investigated various determinants of demand for money for the period 1970 to 2009. The study utilized Johansen-juselius cointegration analysis to test for the existence of a long run relationship between the variables and an Error Correction method is then used. The study concluded that the income and price has a positive effect on the demand for money. On the other hand, interest rate and exchange rate has a negative. The income elasticity is 1.98 and showing significant, implying that in India, a one percent economic growth requires around 1.98 percent increase in the nation’s money supply.

A Cointegration and Error Correction Approach to the Determinants of Inflation in India

No doubt that the persistent rise in the price levels of commodities and services adversely affec... more No doubt that the persistent rise in the price levels of commodities and services adversely affects the economic performance. The goal of each and every Government is to maintain low and relatively stable levels of inflation. Creeping or mild inflation can be viewed as having favorable impacts on the economy; on the other hand zero inflation is harmful to other sectors in the economy. The right level of inflation, is somewhere in the middle. The study analyzed the major determinants of inflation in India extracting 54 time series quarterly observations. The study employed Johansen-juselius cointegration methodology to test for the existence of a long run relationship between the variables. The cointegrating regression so far considers only the long-run property of the model, and does not deal with the short-run dynamics explicitly. For this, the error correction from the long run determinants of inflation is then used as a dynamic model to estimate the short run determinants of inflation. The study concluded that the GDP and broad money have a positive effect on the inflation in long run. On the other hand, interest rate and exchange rate has a negative effect. The income coefficient is 0.37 and showing significant, implying that in India, a one percent increase in income while others keep constant contributes 0.37% increase in inflation. Similarly the money coefficient is 0.047 and showing significant, implying that in India, one percent increase in money supply leads to a 5% increase in price level.

External factors such as variations in exchange rates should, to some extent, affect the composit... more External factors such as variations in exchange rates should, to some extent, affect the composition of optimal money holdings. It was Robert Mundell who proposed the idea that demand for money could depend on the exchange rate in addition to the income and interest rate. Changes in exchange rate may have two effects on the demand for domestic currency, wealth effect and currency substitution effect. The main objective of the paper is to examine the effects of exchange rate on domestic demand for money in India covering the period of 1998Q1 to 2009Q4. The statistical and time series properties of each and every variable are examined using the conventional unit root test and utilizes Johansen-juselius cointegration analysis to test for the existence of a long run relationship between the determinants and the error correction from the long rum money demand is then used. The results shows a little evidence for the basic contention that exchange rates have a significant influence on money demand and increase in exchange rate not results in reduced domestic demand for money in India
