Alessio Giovene is a Ph.D. student in Italian Studies and Comparative Literature at FAU, where he is also GTA of Italian Literature and Culture. Before, he completed his studies at Università di Bologna, where he graduated in 20th-century Italian Poetry with a thesis about the influence of Bergson and Lacan on Ungaretti and Zanzotto. He specializes in Italian Studies and Comparative Literature, hybridizing his research with Animal Studies, Ecocriticism, Disability Studies, and Gender Studies. He published articles in international journals (i.e., Gradiva, Italian Studies, The Steinbeck Review) and presented his research at institutions such as Yale, Brown, and UPenn.

La poesia di Giovanni Raboni è sempre stata connessa alla città di Milano fin dalla sua prima rac... more La poesia di Giovanni Raboni è sempre stata connessa alla città di Milano fin dalla sua prima raccolta, Le Case della Vetra (1966), dove la città appare come una metropoli industriale e il luogo delle memorie dell’autore. Tradizionalmente la critica ha considerato Raboni un nichilista e ha interpretato il suo ritratto di Milano come quello di una città desolante e priva di speranza. Partendo da un testo dell’autore recentemente riscoperto, quest’articolo mette in dubbio una simile analisi e intende offrire una reinterpretazione spaziale della sua poesia. A tal proposito, le affinità tra Raboni e le teorie di Heidegger appaiono evidenti: secondo il filosofo tedesco, i poeti possiedono l’abilità di ‘imparare ad abitare’ un luogo attraverso la loro poesia. In tal senso, anche Raboni impara ad abitare Milano, vi forgia la propria identità e immagina un futuro dove gli individui possano vivere i moderni paesaggi urbani senza sacrificare la propria autenticità.

The connection between Andrea Zanzotto and audiovisual media has been studied mostly in relation ... more The connection between Andrea Zanzotto and audiovisual media has been studied mostly in relation to his collaboration on Fellini's Casanova. Actually, the interest of the poet in cinema was born during his childhood and will shape his works, both in poetry and in prose. Yet in his first poetry collections (Dietro il paesaggio, Vocativo) there are references to movies. At the same time, he writes short stories, published in the collection Sull'Altopiano, where the film language is present, and the setting of several tales recalls movies by Dreyer and Sjöstrom. During the 6os, the definitive approach to the Lacanian theories is an opportunity to experiment with new forms of language, mostly with the audiovisual one, as is evident in La Beltà and Gli Sguardi i Fatti e Senhal. Meanwhile, Zanzotto starts writing down his meditations on cinema, now negatively connoted. In fact, only from the 70s, after Zanzotto knew and collaborated with the director Fellini, his thoughts on cinema change definitely. At that time, his meditations on audiovisual media increase significantly, as weel as his film reviews (e.g. Teorema by Pasolini). But the most important theories about cinema are in two poetry collections: Idioma and Filò, where cinema is compared to poetry. From the 80s, Zanzotto elaborates on his meditations, distinguishing cinema from television, underlining the different effects of these media on people.
