I have more than 25 years of research experience in oceanographic research base on satelite imagery processing, lagoon pollution and coastal zone. I am currently the vice-president of Univsersite felix Houphouet-Boigny in Côte d’Ivoire . I joined the center of ocean research (CRO) in Abidjan as a young scientists in 1988 and left the center to join the Univsersité de Cocody in 1989. In that University, I became successively : (i) Director of CURAT (Remote sensing Center for applied research) from 2002 to 2010, the CURAT comprises specialists of remote sensing, and geographic information system applied in various disciplines such as oceanology, mining, geology, hydrogeology, geodesy, botanic and geography

The goal in this work is to map the fracture network in the department of Sinfra (center-west of ... more The goal in this work is to map the fracture network in the department of Sinfra (center-west of Ivory Coast), located in substratum area. The methodology used in this study also provides a method to validate the obtained map of fracture network. To achieve this objective, Landsat TM and ETM+ images (197-55) respectively from 1986 and 2003 are processed in order to extract the fracture network. This network is the characterized by statistical analysis methods in order to reveal the main directions followed by regional fractures and those followed by fractures in general. The second parameter to be analyzed in the context of this analysis is the statistical correlation between the number and cumulative length of fractures. The processing of satellite images has produced a dense network of fractures 8877. The distribution of number of fractures orientation in the overall fracturing field gives two main direction namely N0-10 and N90-100 in respective proportions of 16% and 12%. The distribution of orientation of the cumulative length of fractures has also two main directions, the same as before: N0-10 and N90-100 with 14% and 13% respectively in proportion. Five secondary directions were also identified: N10-20, N20-30, N70-80, N100-110 and N110-120. Thus, in the department of Sinfra, mega fractures follow both directions previously identified: EW and NS. This study also showed that the number and cumulative length of fractures are two parameters that are linked with à linear correlation coefficient R = 0.68.

We investigated the relative influence of local environmental and spatial factors in structuring ... more We investigated the relative influence of local environmental and spatial factors in structuring the community composition of fish at 15 sampling sites along the longitudinal gradient of the Lower Niger River Basin (LNRB) in dry and rainy seasons using distance‐based redundancy analysis and variation partitioning analysis. We collected a total of 3807 fish specimens representing 42 species. Our result indicated that the fish community composition differed between the upper and lower regions of the river. The communities in the upper region is influenced by high‐nutrient concentrations, while downstream sites were characterized by high concentrations of suspended solids. Variation partitioning revealed higher contributions of spatial than environmental predictors on fish community composition, with a higher total predicted variance in dry season. En effet, les aquiferes du socle fissure constituent d'excellents reservoirs d'eau souterraine (Kouame, 1999; Jour-da et al, 2005). L'objectif de ce travail est de realiser la carte des lineaments et les cartes thematiques des ressources en eau souterraine de Soubre-Meagui en vue de leur gestion efficiente. L'approche methodologique utilisee est la tele-detection couplee au Systeme d'Information a Reference Spatiale (SIRS). Grâce aux differents traitements appliques aux images Landsat ETM+ (correction geometrique, rehaussement, ACP, composition coloree, filtrage spatial), les lineaments structuraux ont ete extraits manuellement. La validation de ces lineaments avec des cartes photo-geologiques preexistantes a permis de realiser la carte de fracturation de Soubre-Meagui. Markovian approach for analysis and prediction of monthly precipitation field in the department of Sinfra ( Central-west of Côte d'Ivoire)

Regional rainfall trends in Ivory Coast, due to climate change, show a general decrease in rainfa... more Regional rainfall trends in Ivory Coast, due to climate change, show a general decrease in rainfall over the entire country. This is likely to disrupt plans streams thereby reducing the availability of surface water resources. The objective therefore assigned to this work is to analyze the precipitation field while incorporating the effect of climate change. For field analysis of precipitation, the approach follows a markovian approach, which is a stochastic approach widely used to analyze and simulate the spatio-temporal evolution of a system from transition probabilities. The study was conducted on a time series of rainfall data (1966-2000) and showed that monthly precipitation echoes are well described by a Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The arkovian approach followed in this work has helped develop a model to analyze and forecast precipitation field in the department that of Sinfra that reflects reality with accuracy about 83 %.

The principal objective of this paper is to show how relevant is the incentive policy to agricult... more The principal objective of this paper is to show how relevant is the incentive policy to agricultural investments for food poverty reduction towards agricultural households. The data used for this study are from the 1985-88 CI-LSMS and the 1998 National Statistics Institute's Household Surveys. We estimate a model of Rotating Panel to stress on the state intervention for food poverty reduction through private agricultural investment. The itinerary analysis of the households classified food poor or not food poor according to the necessary and advised caloric threshold allows observing the living standards of agricultural households between 1985 and 1988. The computed results support that using state intervention to provide agricultural services improves the caloric intake of the agricultural households through the private investment incentive. In the contrary, the progressive withdrawal of the state at the end of 1986 pushed down the daily consumption of several households below the advised caloric threshold. These outcomes suggest that the debate on suppressing or not suppressing state agricultural subventions in the poor countries be revisited.

Les données sont tirées des enquêtes CILSS-LSMS "Côte d'Ivoire Living Standard Survey" ou enquêtes ménages (ENVM) réalisées par l'Institut National de la Statistique (INS), respectivement de 1985 à 1988 et en 1998. Un modèle de régressions de données de panel avec « rotation » a été utilisé pour établir le rôle de l'intervention de l'État dans la réduction de la pauvreté alimentaire, à travers l'incitation à l'investissement privé agricole. L'analyse de l'itinéraire des ménages classés pauvres alimentaire ou non pauvres alimentaire selon les seuils caloriques nécessaires et conseillés, a permis de suivre l'évolution du niveau de vie des ménages agricoles sur la période 1985-1988. Les résultats montrent que l'intervention de l'État contribue à améliorer le niveau de la consommation calorique des ménages agricoles à travers l'incitation à l'investissement privé. En revanche, son retrait progressif vers la fin de 1986 a fait basculer la consommation calorique journalière en dessous du seuil conseillé. Il y a donc intérêt à revisiter le débat sur la suppression ou non des subventions agricoles de l'État dans les pays pauvres.

Le developpement non-maitrise de l’agglomeration d’Abidjan a provoque depuis plusieurs decennies ... more Le developpement non-maitrise de l’agglomeration d’Abidjan a provoque depuis plusieurs decennies une degradation de l’environnement urbain tout a fait remarquable, notamment au niveau du systeme lagunaire. Les sediments de l’estuaire du Banco ont donc ete analyse dans le but d’identifier et de cartographier les polluants organo-metalliques. Presque toutes les carottes de sediments prelevees montrent des concentrations maximales indiquant un enfouissement lent mais constant des sediments fortement pollues. La distribution spatiale de la teneur des sediments en Hydrocarbure Aromatique Polycyclique (HAP) et en metaux lourds revele une contamination importante domine le plus souvent par les metaux (Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn, Mn, Ni et Fe). L’intensite de cette pollution est traduite par l’indice moyen de contamination (Icm). Characterization of Meteorological Drought in the Region of Marahoué (Center-West of Côte D'Ivoire: Contribution of the Standardized Precipitation Index (Spi))

Marahoue region in western of Cote d’Ivoire is a high agricultural area under frequent climatic d... more Marahoue region in western of Cote d’Ivoire is a high agricultural area under frequent climatic disturbances mainly due to high rainfall variability. The aim of this study is to assess the effects of drought on water resources, in order to propose mitigation or adaptation strategies to the people. To do this, an analysis of rainfall data was done by computing standardized precipitation indices (SPI) at different time scales: 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months in Zuenoula (1972-2000), Bouafle (1940-2001), and Sinfra (1966-2000). These short-term indices (03 months and 06 months) indicate that the study area observed a moderate drought on 24.14% to 42.86% of the total time analyzed. To means term (12 months), 24.14% to 37.14% of the time analyzed recorded a moderate drought. In the long term (24 months) the SPI values indicate that 31.67% to 42.42% of the total time analyzed recorded a moderate drought; 6.06% to 11.67% of the total time analyzed is marked by severe drought.

La pression foncière engendrée conjuguée à la destruction du couvert végétal entraînent la dégradation des sols. Ces conséquences préoccupent les collectivités territoriales, les élus locaux, et les aménageurs du territoire. In recent years, in order to better understand this scientific accumulation-erosion budget phenomenon, CURAT (Centre Universitaire de Recherche et d'Application en Tiliditection) undertook studies both in situ and from a mapping approach to assess the rate of coastal retreat on the sandy coasts of the Ivory Coast. Le developpement non-maitrise de l’agglomeration d’Abidjan a provoque depuis plusieurs decennies ... more Le developpement non-maitrise de l’agglomeration d’Abidjan a provoque depuis plusieurs decennies une degradation de l’environnement urbain tout a fait remarquable, notamment au niveau du systeme lagunaire. Les sediments de l’estuaire du Banco ont donc ete analyse dans le but d’identifier et de cartographier les polluants organo-metalliques. Presque toutes les carottes de sediments prelevees montrent des concentrations maximales indiquant un enfouissement lent mais constant des sediments fortement pollues. La distribution spatiale de la teneur des sediments en Hydrocarbure Aromatique Polycyclique (HAP) et en metaux lourds revele une contamination importante domine le plus souvent par les metaux (Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn, Mn, Ni et Fe). L’intensite de cette pollution est traduite par l’indice moyen de contamination (Icm). Characterization of Meteorological Drought in the Region of Marahoué (Center-West of Côte D'Ivoire: Contribution of the Standardized Precipitation Index (Spi))

Marahoue region in western of Cote d’Ivoire is a high agricultural area under frequent climatic d... more Marahoue region in western of Cote d’Ivoire is a high agricultural area under frequent climatic disturbances mainly due to high rainfall variability. The aim of this study is to assess the effects of drought on water resources, in order to propose mitigation or adaptation strategies to the people. To do this, an analysis of rainfall data was done by computing standardized precipitation indices (SPI) at different time scales: 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months in Zuenoula (1972-2000), Bouafle (1940-2001), and Sinfra (1966-2000). These short-term indices (03 months and 06 months) indicate that the study area observed a moderate drought on 24.14% to 42.86% of the total time analyzed. To means term (12 months), 24.14% to 37.14% of the time analyzed recorded a moderate drought. In the long term (24 months) the SPI values indicate that 31.67% to 42.42% of the total time analyzed recorded a moderate drought; 6.06% to 11.67% of the total time analyzed is marked by severe drought.

La pression foncière engendrée conjuguée à la destruction du couvert végétal entraînent la dégradation des sols. Ces conséquences préoccupent les collectivités territoriales, les élus locaux, et les aménageurs du territoire. Ainsi il importe d'évaluer l'aire d'une classe d'occupation du sol dans le futur et son influence sur les autres classes d'occupation du sol tout en précisant sa localisation et sa composition. In recent years, in order to better understand this scientific accumulation-erosion budget phenomenon, CURAT (Centre Universitaire de Recherche et d'Application en Tiliditection) undertook studies both in situ and from a mapping approach to assess the rate of coastal retreat on the sandy coasts of the Ivory Coast.
