We used molding to extend our standard fireplace to the ceiling. Before, it was simple and standard. We just used a few pieces of molding and wood as well as white trim paint to give it a dramatic look. Before & After We painted everywhere except over the fireplace. It’s custom built by professional finish carpenters, but I’m going to give you all the info to DIY. We had the BEST finish carpenters in all the land @awesometrimwork working on our home, and they custom built our mantle for a look we loved and so that we could match it to the wood beam and kitchenette wood stain we put in down there. So… I reached out to thfor the details, and here’s what they said: “We built the mantle using Clear Alder. It’s a pretty simple but sleek design. We ordered a 6” cove crown moulding from a local mill and ran that on the inside of our outer box.
