Hail and well met my fellow MHA freaks!
This year I will be hosting a My Hero Academia Bang to celebrate my birthday! The theme of The Bang is Heartache//Slash, for both the readers and the characters. This is a slash event so all ships will be M/M or F/F (Nonbinary/Nonbinary, NB/M, and NB/F are also accepted!) This event will focus on the more gut-wrenching themes and tropes that usually require some form of content warning on Ao3. The event will be running for an entire year (May 30th, 2025 - May 30th, 2026) with the ability to finish early and the possibility of extensions up to six months (November 30th, 2026). If you're ready for that kind of commitment, boy oh BOY do I have more information for you!
Some common and widely known tropes relating to the theme would be:
- Hurt/No Comfort (and regular Hurt/Comfort)
- Trauma (physical/emotional)
- Major Character Death (does not have to be permanent)
- Violence (extreme or canon typical)
- Angst
- Enemies to Lovers
- Experimentation
- Villain AU
- Dead Dove Do Not Eat

In the spirit of
the original Big Bang, this will be a collaborative event where authors will write a fanfic with a required minimum word count and an artist will be paired with them to create an illustration based on the fanfic. If you would like to participate as both an author and artist you will not be allowed to create art for your own fanfic for the event- but doing it on your own time is absolutely fine!
The event will be divided into a Mini Bang! a Big Bang! and an Epic Bang! each with different word count requirements.
The Mini Bang will have a minimum word count of 15k.
The Big Bang will have a minimum word count of 35k.
The Epic Bang will have a minimum word count of 100k.
There is no maximum word count for any of the Bangs.
All Bangs will run simultaneously on the same schedule. You are welcome to participate in multiple Bangs, but if you are an author I would highly recommend just focusing on one large fic or a few smaller stories. It will be more manageable to participate in multiple Bangs as an artist.
Once fanfics have been completed, artists will receive their assignment and may begin working on their illustration. They will be in communication with the author and discuss which scenes they both feel are worth considering for the piece, and will receive final approval from me.
The content of the illustrations will be focused on the main character(s), most of which will be romantically involved in some way. This means you will likely be drawing two characters (minimum) interacting with each other in a detailed environment. You should expect the piece to be at least moderately complex and involve extra effort to render. There is no specific style required for rendering and it is left open to interpretation, so long as there is intentional lighting and the piece is in full color.
No explicit NSFW artwork is allowed for the event. Suggestive themes are open to discussion.
Here are a few other guidelines for the fanart:
- Each artist will be assigned a fanfic based on their preferences, though a perfect match is not guaranteed.
- Artists are allowed to pair up with friends who have joined the event as authors and may request to be assigned to their fanfic.
- Artists are allowed to request to work on specific fanfics.
- Each artist is allowed to choose which part of the fanfic to use as inspiration.
- Artists must confirm their idea with me before beginning.
- Each illustration will be created based on the fanfic assigned to the creator.
- Each illustration is required to have a background.
- Each illustration will be fully rendered with shading and lighting (in your style).
- Authors may make suggestions to the artists for which scenes to use, but following the suggestion is not required and the artist will ultimately make the decision on what to create.
Since the timeline for fanart will depend on the completion of fanfics, the schedule will work a bit differently as well.
Once you are assigned your fanfic you will give an estimated time for how long it will take you to read it. I will check in at that time to see how much left you have to read.
Once you finish reading the fanfic you will contact the author and begin discussing ideas for the illustration. You will be allowed one week to talk it over and propose the idea to me.
After the proposal is approved you may begin working on your illustration. You will give an estimated time frame for how long it will take you to finish the piece with a maximum limit of 6 months.
First Check-Ins will be after 25% of the time frame has passed. If you are having any difficulties, need critique, or would like to discuss the piece that is the perfect time for it.
Second Check-Ins will be after 50% of the time frame has passed. It would be a good time to let me know if you need an extension on your illustration.
Last Check-Ins will be after 90% of the time frame has passed. It will be the last time to ask for an extension or drop out of the event.
The Final Illustration will be due at the end of the discussed time period.
If that all sounds fun and doable then we're just about done!
Here are a few last notes about being an artist for this event:
- Artists are allowed to work on multiple illustrations at once and each one can have an individual time frame.
- Artists are allowed to finish early if possible.
- Artists are allowed to drop out if needed. There's no shame in having to leave, just be kind and try to let me know asap so I can pair up another artist with the fic!
- Artists will be informed of all major tags and triggering topics before committing to a fic.
- Artists who are minors will only be paired with SFW/non-sexually explicit fanfics.
- Artists may ask to be given a different fanfic if they find the content of the fic more triggering for them than expected.
- If there are issues between the author and artist paired together where a reasonable compromise cannot be made, you may request to be removed from their project and reassigned, or leave the event if you so desire.
